Principal Data Scientist in Epidemiology and Patient Data Products (Remote - US)

Accountabilities

• Lead large-scale epidemiological and data science research programs from concept to delivery, integrating multiple real-world data workstreams such as electronic health records, longitudinal patient datasets, and multi-omics resources
• Mentor and guide technical team members while serving as a senior consultant to cross-functional groups across translational data science, including computational biology, statistical genetics, and knowledge graph development
• Act as a project leader with external partners, transforming scientific questions into robust observational study designs and producing high-value insights tailored to diverse audiences
• Collaborate with program management and data science teams to define scope, build timelines, allocate resources, and manage execution using agile tools such as Jira
• Navigate scientific uncertainty with creativity, proposing novel approaches where standard methodologies may not yet exist
• Conduct advanced analyses in R and Python across large-scale global patient data environments, including EMR datasets, sequencing information, and multi-omics modalities
• Uphold shared analytic standards, champion reproducibility, and contribute to best practices across the broader data science organization

Requirements

• PhD in epidemiology or biostatistics with at least seven years of experience, or MPH/MS with ten or more years leading epidemiological, statistical, or machine-learning projects using real-world patient data
• Expertise in observational study design and statistical analysis of cohort and longitudinal data drawn from electronic health records or other large-scale real-world datasets
• Strong command of biostatistical approaches, including inferential and predictive modeling, plus familiarity with integrating causal inference and machine-learning techniques
• Experience applying or exploring large language model applications for data curation and insight extraction in real-world data settings
• Proficiency using agile project management tools such as Jira and confidence coordinating timelines and multi-team workflows
• Demonstrated experience leading complex research initiatives with tangible business or scientific impact and delivering insights to leadership stakeholders
• Advanced programming skills in Python and/or R, with proven experience conducting data manipulation and statistical modeling
• Experience acting as an external-facing project leader, managing client expectations, and facilitating communication across stakeholders
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-paced environments; experience working in start-up or highly cross-functional settings is a strong plus
• Optional strengths include experience in neurodegenerative research, background in drug discovery processes, familiarity with clinico-omics datasets, and two or more years mentoring or managing direct reports

Benefits

• Remote salary range between 180,000 and 230,000 USD; California salary range between 210,000 and 270,000 USD
