As a Fullstack Engineer, you'll play a critical role in improving the tools veterans rely on to access their benefits. Working across modern technologies like Ruby, React, and AI-driven development platforms, you'll design scalable, accessible, and impactful solutions. You'll collaborate in a self-managed environment that values inclusion, trust, and human-centered design while contributing to national-scale systems that deliver real-world value.
Accountabilities:
- Design and implement both front-end and back-end components, crafting intuitive user experiences and reliable service APIs
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and develop scalable, accessible solutions for public sector users
- Leverage AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Cline to improve development workflows, enhance quality, and boost productivity
- Conduct code reviews, mentor peers through pair programming, and maintain high standards through consistent testing and documentation practices
- Make informed architectural decisions using design patterns, performance metrics, and user feedback
- Contribute to team practices by identifying opportunities for process improvement, supporting hiring efforts, and participating in the engineering community
- Foster innovation through hypothesis-driven development and experimentation, maintaining a pragmatic approach to trade-offs and continuous improvement
- Support the development lifecycle with tools like GitHub Actions, and operate confidently in cloud-based environments such as AWS or Azure
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer working across complex architectures in B2B or public-facing applications
- Proficiency with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/TypeScript using frameworks like React, including testing tools like RSpec and React Testing Library
- Experience with API-driven development and polyglot programming environments
- Demonstrated ability to integrate and experiment with AI tools to enhance delivery and software quality
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a self-managed, remote team
- Background in Agile development environments and comfort with distributed, asynchronous collaboration
- Experience living and working in the U.S. for at least 3 of the past 5 years
- Additional experience working with government clients, the U.S. Web Design System, or as a U.S. veteran is highly valued
