This role is part of a fast-scaling global engineering organization building the infrastructure for modern international work. You will contribute to the design and development of backend systems that power high-scale, mission-critical HR and payroll services used across 150+ countries. Working in a remote-first, cross-functional environment, you will collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, designers, and QA teams to deliver reliable and scalable backend solutions. The position requires strong backend expertise combined with a product-oriented mindset, ensuring that technical decisions translate into meaningful customer impact. You will work on APIs, distributed systems, and high-volume data processing while ensuring performance, security, and scalability. Accountabilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
Build and enhance robust APIs with a strong focus on performance, security, and scalability
Develop backend features and services across the full software development lifecycle, from design to deployment
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including frontend engineers, product managers, designers, and QA to deliver end-to-end solutions
Optimize database performance, including PostgreSQL queries, data modeling, and migrations
Design systems capable of handling high transaction volumes, concurrency, and real-time processing requirements
Ensure reliability and maintainability through clean architecture, testing, and code quality best practices
Participate in product planning, technical discovery, and architecture discussions
Identify and resolve production issues, contributing to continuous improvement and system stability

Requirements

4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with strong backend development expertise
Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript
Solid experience with SQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including optimization and data modeling
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns
Experience building scalable, high-performance distributed systems
Proven ability to design and maintain APIs, including authentication (JWT), validation, and secure architecture
Experience handling high-throughput systems, concurrency, and performance optimization
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and modern development practices
Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly
Experience working in remote, distributed, and asynchronous teams
A product-oriented mindset focused on delivering customer value
