Jigcar is rethinking automotive operations using AI — helping automotive businesses turn transport cost into profit and building the leading platform for operational efficiency and return on assets in the $2tn automotive industry.
Dealers, OEMs, and 3PLs run huge logistics operations using spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups, and legacy tools. We’re fixing that. Starting with transport, Jigcar is becoming the operating system for automotive operations and logistics: route planning, optimisation, driver apps, prep, marketplace integrations, and intelligence — all powered by real-world usage.
Founded by ex-Cazoo engineers/operators and automotive veterans (including leaders with experience from McLaren, Aston Martin and major dealer groups), Jigcar already powers operations for some of the UK’s largest retailers. We’re backed by leading investors (Concept, Triple Point, and leading automotive angels from companies like Carwow and Bumper) and are scaling quickly in 2025 to build the most product-driven, AI-first technology company in automotive.
At Jigcar, we empower great people with real ownership, think big while executing pragmatically, and obsess over delivering customer value. We care deeply about outcomes over ego and look for people who share that mindset.
The Role
We’re hiring a hands-on, product-minded Software Engineer who is as comfortable working with code as understanding real users and operational problems. This is not a purely back-office engineering role - your work will show up in the field, in workflows, and in customer outcomes.
Location: Hybrid UK or Remote UK/EU
Team: Product & Engineering
Salary range: £55k - 85k - DOE. We’re open to hiring either a mid-level or senior engineer depending on experience, impact and level of ownership.
What you’ll work on:
- You’ll ship features customers rely on every day and help shape how we build as an engineering team. This includes:
- Designing, building and owning end-to-end features across our stack (Node.js, TypeScript, Vue.js, GraphQL, AWS, serverless, SQL/DynamoDB).
- Shipping production features across the platform - transport planning, driver apps, prep, payments and intelligence.
- Working directly with customers and internal teams to understand workflows, diagnose issues and turn messy real-world problems into robust, simple solutions.
- Prototyping and iterating on AI-powered tools that improve planning, decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Joining occasional customer calls or on-site visits (with Product, Design or CS) when context helps us build the right thing.
- Turning qualitative feedback and operational data into clear technical requirements.
- Collaborating with Product and Design to prototype, validate and ship user-centred solutions quickly.
- Improving performance, observability and reliability across the platform as we scale.
- Contributing to internal playbooks, documentation and engineering best practices so we keep raising the bar as we grow.
Who you’ll work with:
- Rupert (CPO) on product direction, UX and prioritisation
- James (Transport Director) on real-world operational context and workflow impact
- Amy (Product Designer) on turning insight into clear, intuitive product experiences
- Elliott (CEO) and the wider team on high-impact initiatives that directly affect customer outcomes
What we’re looking for
What You’ll Bring
- 3+ years’ experience building web applications in a modern stack.
- Strong experience (or clear aptitude) with some of: Node.js, TypeScript, Vue.js, GraphQL, AWS, serverless, SQL/DynamoDB.
- Solid understanding of Git, CI/CD and modern engineering workflows.
- A high-execution mindset - you enjoy owning problems end-to-end, not just closing tickets.
- Comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders (operations teams, customers, leadership) to understand workflows and ship the right solutions.
- Curiosity about AI and automation - whether that’s LLMs, optimisation or smarter internal tools - and a desire to experiment pragmatically.
- A strong product mindset: you care about impact, usability and adoption just as much as clean code.
- A builder’s attitude: you’re comfortable with ambiguity, evolving processes and wearing multiple hats in an early-stage environment.
Bonus points for:
- Experience in logistics, automotive, operations-heavy or marketplace businesses.
- Exposure to (or interest in):
- TDD and structured testing practices
- Data modelling in DynamoDB or relational databases
- Building internal tools or operational workflows
- Applying AI/ML techniques in production, even in scrappy, lightweight ways
How you work
- Our culture is rooted in humility, customer obsession and pragmatic execution. You’ll fit right in if:
- You’re energised by joining a startup early and shaping how it grows.
- You enjoy moving between discovery, design, implementation and support.
- You communicate clearly and can explain trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- You enjoy pairing and collaborating with Engineering, Product, Design and Customer Success.
- You’re comfortable visiting customer sites or joining field sessions when context helps build better products.
- You think big but execute simply, focusing on what delivers real value.
- You care more about outcomes than ego.
This role might not be right for you if…
- You prefer highly defined processes, long planning cycles and predictable structures.
- You’re not comfortable speaking directly with users or non-technical teams.
- You want narrow responsibilities rather than a mix of product, engineering and discovery work.
- You find ambiguity frustrating rather than energising.
What we can offer you
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity from day one
- High-spec MacBook and quality equipment
- Discretionary performance-driven bonuses
- The chance to help build a category-defining product
- 28 days holiday + your birthday off
Our commitment to diversity
The automotive industry has historically lacked diversity and balanced gender representation, and we want to help change that. At Jigcar, we’re committed to building a team where people of all backgrounds feel welcome, supported and able to thrive. We actively encourage applications from underrepresented groups - your lived experience and perspectives will make us stronger.
