Product Owner

James Adams is currently looking for a Product Owner with extensive experience working with Data Engineering teams. This is a permanent role working mostly remote, 1 day per month in East Midlands.

About the Opportunity

Our client is looking for a crucial link between their business needs and technical data solutions. As the Product Owner for Data Engineering, you'll be instrumental in understanding stakeholder requirements, translating them into clear user stories, and guiding the data engineering team throughout the development lifecycle. This role demands a deep understanding of data pipelines, data warehousing, and data governance, coupled with outstanding communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and Champion the Data Product Vision: Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to grasp strategic objectives and transform them into a compelling vision for data products and platforms.
• Strategic Backlog Management: Take ownership of and prioritize the data engineering backlog, ensuring perfect alignment with business goals for maximum value delivery.
• Comprehensive Requirements Gathering: Work closely with business users, analysts, and other product teams to meticulously gather, refine, and document data requirements.
• Crafting Effective User Stories: Develop clear, concise, and testable user stories, complete with precise acceptance criteria, for all data engineering initiatives.
• Proactive Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for all data product development inquiries, providing regular updates and expertly managing expectations.
• Ensuring Data Quality & Governance: Champion and embed best practices for data quality, data governance, and data security into every data product developed.
• Staying Ahead of the Curve: Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices within data engineering and product management.

What Our Client Is Looking For

• Proven Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role, with a strong focus on working directly with data engineering teams.
• Deep Data Expertise: A solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and various database technologies (e.g., SQL, and cloud data platforms like AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Strong Technical Acumen: The ability to grasp complex technical details and articulate them clearly to non-technical stakeholders. While not a hands-on coding role, a firm understanding of data architecture and engineering principles is essential.
• Agile Proficiency: Demonstrable experience and practical knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
• Exceptional Communication & Influence: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to influence and negotiate effectively across various stakeholder groups.
• Analytical Problem-Solver: A proactive and analytical approach to problem-solving, coupled with an keen eye for detail.
• Skilled Stakeholder Management: A track record of building robust relationships and skillfully managing expectations with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
