Jam is a fast-growing mobile technology company focused on direct carrier billing and mobile value-added services. We partner with mobile network operators and aggregators across multiple markets to deliver seamless digital content experiences directly to consumers.

We are scaling our engineering team to support an ambitious growth plan and looking for engineers who are technically strong, curious, and take ownership of their work from design to deployment.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our tech team and contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of our platforms. You will work on building new features, improving existing systems, and ensuring our services are reliable, scalable, and performant.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of post-graduate work experience, a strong software engineering foundation, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment. This is a full time, on-site position based in Colombo 5.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain features across our platforms and backend services.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Collaborate with product, operations, and other engineering team members to deliver high-quality solutions.
Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical planning.
Debug and resolve issues across development, staging, and production environments.
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure improvements.
Support the integration of new operator, aggregator, and partner systems.
Document technical decisions and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
Write and execute unit tests to ensure code quality and reliability.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
At least 2 years of post-graduate work experience in a software engineering role.
Strong understanding of web development concepts (HTTP, APIs, databases, authentication, etc.).
Experience with at least one modern backend framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel, Node.js, etc.).
Comfortable working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Familiarity with Git, version control workflows, and collaborative development practices.
Experience with background job processing frameworks (e.g., Sidekiq, Hangfire).
Familiarity with monitoring tools and practices (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus).
Willingness to learn Ruby if unfamiliar with the language.
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Nice to Have

Experience with Ruby on Rails.
Exposure to telecom, fintech, or digital services platforms.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Huawei Cloud).
Familiarity with Ansible, CI/CD tools, or DevOps practices.
Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment.
