At Jacobs, we’re growing our UK Digital & Data team and seeking experienced Java Software Engineers to join us. This is your opportunity to work on impactful projects across diverse sectors, including water, transportation, defence, and government, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create scalable, high-performance back-end services.

As a Java Software Engineer, you’ll apply object-oriented principles to build robust solutions, leveraging cloud technologies and modern development practices. This hands-on role offers the chance to take ownership of end-to-end solutions, engage directly with clients, and contribute to a culture of quality, learning, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

• Design, implement, and deliver scalable back-end services and APIs using modern Java best practices.
• Optimise application performance through multi-threading and concurrency techniques.
• Collaborate with agile teams, including product owners, architects, and QA engineers, to deliver high-quality software.
• Utilise cloud platforms like Azure and AWS, and integrate data storage solutions for scalable service delivery.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and agile ceremonies.

Here's what you'll need

• Solid, proven Java development expertise and experience with a strong understanding of Java (8+..11, 17, 21) features and object-oriented design principles.
• Expertise in multi-threading, concurrency, and performance optimisation.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS, and automated testing frameworks like JUnit.
• Proven ability to deliver robust, scalable software solutions within agile teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a growth mindset, with enthusiasm for learning and knowledge sharing.

Experience with SpringBoot, Kubernetes, Python and SQL would be beneficial.

Other Key Information

This role is subject to UK Security Vetting at SC (security check) level. Applicants must be eligible and willing to undergo the appropriate security clearance process, if not already cleared. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo the relevant vetting process to achieve SCclearance. You can find out more about vetting here.

Any offer of employment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of the relevant clearance process.

This is a full time, permanent, hybrid (2-3 days/week Jacobs/client office) role, with occasional business travel.
