JOB SUMMARY
The Vice President of Product Engineering is a strategic, leadership role responsible for managing and driving the success of the product engineering organization. This role oversees development initiatives across itel’s diverse platforms, collaborates in setting development strategies and practices aligned with business outcomes, and partners closely with the CPO and peers to foster a strong team culture, enabling individuals to perform at their best.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with the VP of Product and VP of Enterprise Architect to execute the product strategy and roadmap, ensuring successful initiative delivery and maintaining team momentum
- Understands market challenges and works with teams to leverage technology in solving problems, guiding direction and empowering teams to make tactical decisions during development
- Works closely with engineering team leads to exchange ideas and provide guidance, while allowing for creative autonomy in design strategies. The VP is responsible for questioning and redirecting ineffective decisions, holding leads accountable for their choices, and ultimately owning the overall design outcomes
- Mentors engineering teams across all levels, from leads to individual contributors, understanding their goals and helping to expand their current knowledge and skillsets
- Ensures SDLC is being adhered to by teams and that leadership understands challenges/feedback coming with recommendations towards goal of maturing processes to ensure they are a benefit, not a burden
- Drives thought leadership around engineering methodologies, provides context on how these align with product and business objectives
- Institute system metrics that provide regular updates on engineering team velocity, including outcomes, roadblocks, success needs, and other key metrics to stakeholders
- Leads cross-organizational planning efforts, defining how product roadmaps will be executed and aligning engineering teams on strategic direction and required success criteria
- Builds expertise and contributes value around the property-insurance marketplace, the ecosystem players and how itel products solve problems for our insurance carrier customers.
- Works effectively with Product, Design, and leadership to successfully execute product initiatives and align engineering efforts appropriately
- Stays current with engineering trends and opportunities, leverages to accomplish business goals
- Ensures the successful development of stable solutions to users, market-facing and internal, as well as adherence to Agile and continuous delivery methods
- Transparently manages expectations with stakeholders, including the executive leadership team.
- Proactively identifies and resolves potential platform and scalability risks, ensuring that engineering solutions are scalable and resilient
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED
- At least 10 years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of successfully managing engineering teams that design, build, and mature software products
- Expertise with Microsoft development tools and frameworks including Visual Studio, .NET, Azure, SQL
- Experience with Agile methodologies and a demonstrated history of success in an SDLC-driven environment
- Proven ability to coach and develop individuals at various levels of engineering experience, from junior to senior talent
- Strong self-awareness with a commitment to continuous personal and professional growth.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, driven by natural curiosity and a desire to explore new solutions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas to diverse audiences
- Proven collaboration and interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and work effectively across teams and departments
- Deep understanding of technology best practices and behaviors that ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions meeting organizational needs
