Software Engineer ( COBOL to C#.net Modernization)

Technology Consultant / Software Engineer

• 6-12 months CONTRACT TO HIRE

• Ideal candidates have 3 years of experience in C#/.NET or JAVA with GitHub, and Visual Studio with experience in debugging, and testing and refactoring
• Mainframe modernization experience is a plus. Any certifications on Azure are nice to have.
• This is not typical SDLC, but more like AMLC (application modified life cycle).
• Client is a billion dollar technology services US based company

About the role and what you'll be doing:

In this role, you will be working with a team of experts responsible for legacy modernization. We migrate legacy mainframe applications to modern platforms, using proprietary automated tools, by refactoring COBOL into C# (.NET) or Java. The team handles both automated conversions and manual validation to ensure the refactored code matches mainframe functionality. You will work on such projects, improving the core classes for the client’s modernized environment.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of coding experience in C# ( or JAVA, C, C++ but willing to learn C# )

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in software testing and debugging

• Experience with -

1. Object-oriented programming in C#, Java or similar languages
2. Eclipse or Visual Studio
3. Spring or .NET
4. Relational Databases ( (SQL/ MYSQL/ ORACLE )

• Undergraduate degree, coding boot camp certification, or equivalent experience

• Problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills

NICE TO HAVE

• Familiarity with legacy languages or databases ( Mainframe, IDEAL, COBOL, CICS, JCL, Datacom, DB2 )
• Azure certification

Responsibilities:

• Applying C# coding skills in an Eclipse or Visual Studio modernization environment

• Developing our core C# libraries for modernized environments

• Setting up testing to ensure that modernized programs function correctly

• Analyzing problems found during testing and applying code corrections and improvements

• Coordinating solutions with the team while identifying and implementing process improvements

• Providing consultation and teachable moments to more junior members of the team

The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is ($40-50/hr) and anticipated salary on hire is ($80,000 to $100,000). Actual hourly rate will be based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills and other factors permitted by law.
