Desired Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- Expert-level programming skills in Python.
- Familiarity with Git-based CI/CD workflows for data science project management and reproducible research.
- Experience working with HPC or cloud computing technologies for big data and large compute jobs (AWS preferred).
- Experience working with highly multivariate spatio-temporal data sets.
- Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with lakehouse technologies.
- Experience building visualizations of scientific data.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to provide scientific, analytical, and decision support for key questions around enhancements to our weather data systems, networks, and APIs. The ideal candidate will apply spatiotemporal data science and engineering tools to evaluate new weather data sources and use our data lakehouse technologies to deliver new environmental and weather data products and automations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, acquire, prototype, and analyze weather and climate data products.
- Test the performance of new weather data sources for existing applications.
- Analyze and inform investments in weather data and station/IOT networks.
- Develop QA and data transformation algorithms.
- Test and utilize short-term and seasonal forecast products to extend the time horizon of decision models.
- Integrate these products into decision support solutions that address customer and business needs.
- Develop, prototype, and implement weather data pipelines and software solutions with engineering and production teams.
- Document and communicate approaches to improve decisions, add value to services, and extend or improve in-house models and algorithms.
Compensation:
$60/hr to $75/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
