Engineering Department:
The Engineering department at PracticeTek is responsible for designing, developing, and scaling our SaaS platform to meet the needs of thousands of healthcare providers. Working closely with Product and Design teams, Engineering ensures the seamless delivery of performant, secure, and cost-effective software solutions.
The Engineering team is responsible for the foundational infrastructure, security, and reliability functions that support all PracticeTek products. This includes cloud architecture, observability, cost efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements like HIPAA and PCI.
The Career Opportunity:
As a Lead Software Engineer in our Payments and Shared Services team, you will spearhead the development of a shared payments platform within our core architecture. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll architect a scalable, secure payments solution used by multiple brands across the company. You’ll leverage a modern tech stack (AWS, .NET, Kubernetes, React) and integrate with multiple third-party payment providers to deliver seamless payment experiences. Your work will ensure our payment processes are efficient, reliable, and fully PCI compliant, driving strategic value across all product lines.
Areas of Accountability:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of a shared payments service architecture (microservices, event-driven patterns, API gateways) on AWS, orchestrated via Kubernetes
- Integrate multiple third-party payment provider APIs into the core platform, ensuring a unified and seamless payment processing experience for various brands
- Ensure all payment systems and code meet PCI compliance and security standards, including secure handling of payment data and adherence to industry best practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DevOps, Product, UX, and other brand engineering teams) to align the payments platform with overall product needs and company standards
- Mentor and lead a team of software engineers by providing technical guidance, conducting code reviews, and promoting best practices in .NET and React development
- Drive technical innovation in the payments domain by evaluating new technologies, improving system scalability/performance, and implementing resilient, fault-tolerant designs
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and architectural diagrams for the payments service to ensure knowledge sharing and efficient onboarding across teams
Competencies for Success
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of building and scaling complex web/backend systems (experience in a lead or architect capacity preferred)
- Expert-level proficiency in .NET/C# development and designing RESTful APIs; comfortable with front-end integration points (React) and modern development frameworks
- Strong knowledge of cloud architecture on AWS and hands-on experience with containerization/orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker) for deploying microservices
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, API gateway design, and event-driven systems (experience with message queues or event streaming is a plus)
- Hands-on experience integrating with third-party payment gateways or financial APIs, with a solid grasp of payment processing flows and challenges
- Thorough understanding of security and compliance standards (PCI DSS or similar), and a history of ensuring applications conform to these requirements
- Demonstrated leadership skills: able to successfully lead projects/teams, mentor developers, and drive engineering best practices and high coding standards
- Excellent problem-solving and system design abilities, capable of architecting solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and robust under heavy load
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts and strategy to diverse stakeholders (including non-technical teams and executives)
