About the Company

InCommon is hiring on behalf of a US-based construction robotics company building software and robotic systems to automate home construction. Their platform converts architectural plans into precise digital models and robot-ready instructions using computer vision, optimization, and computational geometry. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in North Carolina, the company operates at the intersection of AI, math, and robotics, with the goal of making home construction faster, more scalable, and more reliable.

What you’ll do

Design the user experience for a web-based building model editor: a highly interactive 2D/3D canvas where users view, edit, and manipulate structural elements with precision and speed. The target is to replace clunky internal tools with a modern web workflow and, longer-term, a client-facing portal.

Responsibilities

  • Design spatial interaction patterns: object selection, transforms, snapping, constraints, layers
  • Create information architecture for complex model data and workflows
  • Produce high-fidelity prototypes and specs that engineers can implement fast
  • Collaborate closely with engineering on feasibility, performance, and usability tradeoffs

Must-haves

  • Strong visual + interaction design across complex applications (not just marketing pages)
  • Experience with interactive 2D/3D tools (spatial UI, object manipulation)
  • Prototyping strength (Figma and/or interactive prototypes)
  • Working familiarity with HTML/CSS constraints and developer handoff

Nice-to-haves

  • WebGL / Three.js / Unity experience (or similar 3D tooling)
  • Prior work on editors (CAD-like, design tools, mapping, 3D config tools)
  • Motion design and micro-interactions for complex canvases
