Position Overview
The Department of State (DOS), Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), is seeking a skilled Data Scientist to support critical data-driven decision-making. This role involves leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling to enhance PRM’s operational efficiency and program effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have experience in data science within a federal government setting and be adept at developing predictive models, analyzing large datasets, and providing actionable insights to key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Modeling:
Develop and implement statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and data-driven insights to support PRM initiatives.
Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable intelligence.
Conduct predictive and prescriptive analytics to optimize program outcomes.
Data Management & Integration:
Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources to create comprehensive analytics solutions.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance in compliance with federal standards.
Design and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes.
Visualization & Reporting:
Develop intuitive dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
Present complex data findings in a clear and concise manner to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
Generate automated reports and real-time monitoring systems to track key performance metrics.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
Work cross-functionally with program managers, policy analysts, and IT teams to align data initiatives with PRM’s mission.
Communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences and provide data-driven recommendations.
Contribute to strategic decision-making by translating data insights into operational improvements.
Machine Learning & AI Integration (Preferred):
Apply natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning techniques to automate data processing tasks.
Explore and implement AI-driven approaches for enhanced decision support.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related field.
Experience working in or with federal government agencies is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL for data analysis and modeling.
Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, etc.).
Strong grasp of statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and optimization techniques.
