We're a Ferndale-based digital marketing agency serving small and mid-sized businesses across Southeast Michigan — websites, SEO, Google Ads, HubSpot, and reputation management. We're hiring a part-time technical contractor to work as an embedded member of our team.
The role at a glance
- ~15 hours/week, fully remote
- $30–35/hr, 1099 contractor
- Steady, recurring work — not one-off projects
- Reports directly to the owner; embedded with our account manager and SEO lead
Who we're looking for
Someone who's hands-on technical across the full small-agency stack. Not a coder. Not a strategist who outsources execution. The person who actually goes into the WordPress admin, the HubSpot portal, the DNS panel, the Google Ads dashboard, and gets it done.
What you'll actually do in a typical week
- Triage Google Search Console issues (canonical URLs, indexing problems, structured data warnings) and either fix them or work with our SEO lead to resolve
- Update WordPress sites — content edits, plugin updates, page builder tweaks (we use Avada heavily, plus some Elementor)
- Build and embed forms (Wufoo, HubSpot, native), route them to the right notification lists, test them
- Configure HubSpot — form notifications, lead routing, basic workflows
- Handle DNS work — TXT records, SPF/DKIM for email deliverability, domain transfers between registrars
- Set up new mailboxes and forwarding when client teams grow
- Pull analytics reports on request (GA4, Search Console, third-party SEO tools)
- Manage Google Ads campaigns we run for service-business clients — keyword adjustments, ad copy updates, conversion tracking
- Handle the occasional fire — site down, hacked WordPress install, plugin conflict — with our hosting partners
- Work with our SEO lead on content briefs, keyword approvals, and on-page optimization
- Help spin up dev sites and provision license keys (Avada, Elementor Pro, etc.) for new client builds
Required
- 3+ years hands-on with WordPress strongly preferred
- Google Ads — comfortable building and managing campaigns end-to-end
- HubSpot — at least Marketing Hub Starter level fluency (forms, workflows, reporting)
- SEO execution — Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs or SEMrush, on-page optimization
- DNS fluency — you know what an A record, CNAME, and TXT record do without Googling
- Strong written communication; you'll occasionally write internal recap notes, not client-facing copy
Nice to have
- Familiarity with, OptinMonster, Wufoo, or similar tools
- Experience with Cloudflare and basic site security
- Background working at an agency (vs. in-house only)
What success looks like in 90 days
You're independently handling the steady stream of small technical tickets — form notifications, plugin updates, Search Console fixes, lead routing, analytics pulls — without me needing to triage or hand-hold. Our account manager has a clear escalation path to you.
