Freelance Graphic Designer - Accessible InDesign & PDF, Imagine Learning Studios

We’re seeking a skilled freelance Graphic Designer - Accessible InDesign & PDF to join our creative team for preferably 6 months to 1-year commitments, with ongoing renewal, to create brand-based high-quality digital accessible PDFs for our products. With trained senior designers and other freelance designers, this role of freelance accessible InDesign & PDF designer will be a crucial part of ensuring accessibility and inclusivity of our brands and products. Freelance Graphic Designer - Accessible InDesign & PDF role

• Execute layout design to meet the standard of the PDF/UA and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) using branded design templates under the supervision of lead accessibility designers
• Create short and long-format PDFs for marketing and ancillary purposes
• Work with complex components, such as tables, graphs and charts, and imagery, in accessible layouts
• Help editing images and updating graphics used in accessible layouts
• Work with the Academic Design and Marketing teams for necessary contexts such as alternative texts and metadata.
• Oversee, support, and ensure the quality of the offshore vendor’s production work adhering to Imagine Learning Studios’ accessibility standards and guidelines
• Help creative team to create necessary accessible design templates
• Craft with problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
• Be a responsible, communicative designer in a remote work environment

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience working as a professional designer for a company, design firm, or advertising agency
• In-depth knowledge and proven technical skills of accessible PDF creation in Adobe InDesign and Acrobat (This position is NOT “Hire for Attitude, Train for Skill”—we seek someone with skillset to help our creative team)
• Familiality with the PDF/UA and the WCAG guidelines
• In-depth knowledge and experience using other Adobe graphic design applications (Photoshop and Illustrator)
• Communication skill: you are able to clearly and openly communicate with the team in order to deliver projects accurately and efficiently
• Attention to detail: you are able to focus on technicality of design accessibility and follow guidelines and instructions
• Will require own laptop (We will provide additional accessibility plug-ins)

PLEASE NOTE: All resumes MUST include an online portfolio link (it’s preferable if it is a live link) with layout design samples that display a range of graphic design skills. The hiring process includes a short take-home design test to ensure your skills in accessible InDesign & PDF.

This is a remote or virtual, part-time or full-time position. Hourly compensation will be determined depending on experience level. Pay range is $40 and up. Must be a U.S. citizen and based in the United States.
