Founding Software Engineer

Location: US Remote (MUST WORK EST HOURS)

Our client is a profitable, established third-party logistics (3PL) and freight brokerage firm specializing in complex, temperature-controlled freight and supply chain consulting. They're currently transitioning their operational foundation into a proprietary, AI-native operating system.

The core AI infrastructure, including a dedicated GPU cluster, knowledge graph and local LLM stack, is already live and querying nearly one million company records. Our partner is now seeking a Founding Software Engineer to own the application layer, designing the transactional databases and service architecture that will scale this system into a commercial-grade SaaS platform.

Role Overview

Rather than building the AI models themselves, the successful candidate will focus on the application and integration layers: building the services, schemas, and API logic required to operationalize the existing AI infrastructure. You will work directly with the founder to replace legacy CRM/TMS functions with an integrated, intelligent platform. Experience working directly with founders or within small, agile engineering teams is essential. This role is intended for a builder who wants to lay the technical foundation for a team they will eventually lead.

Technical Requirements

• Python Expertise: Senior-level proficiency in Python, with specific experience building production-grade services using FastAPI.
• Database Management: Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design for high-transaction environments.
• API & Integration: Deep experience with RESTful APIs, webhooks, and third-party service integrations.
• Architectural Ownership: Proven ability to make high-level architectural decisions without a pre-existing blueprint or legacy codebase.
• Operational Reliability: Understanding of system stability, including handling real-time data ingestion and large-scale historical data migrations.
