Position Summary
As a creative and trend-driven Apparel Graphic Designer (Kids/Boy), you will develop original graphics and artwork for boys' apparel across multiple classifications and age ranges. This role requires a strong understanding of commercial fashion graphics, typography, layout, and color direction tailored to mass market and off-price retailers. The ideal candidate can translate trend insights and retailer direction into compelling, production-ready designs while balancing creativity with commercial viability.
Responsibilities
- Research and identify emerging graphic, fashion, color, and cultural trends relevant to boys' apparel and mass retail customers.
- Create original graphics, prints, typography, layouts, and artwork packages across multiple classifications and age ranges.
- Develop trend-right concepts tailored to mass and off-price retailers while maintaining strong commercial viability and value positioning.
- Execute graphics across a variety of aesthetics including sport, gaming, outdoor, destination, novelty, licensed, and lifestyle trends.
- Prepare production-ready artwork packages including color separations, repeats, placement specs, and factory-ready files.
- Collaborate with Art Director’s & Design to meet customer needs and calendar deadlines.
- Interpret retailer direction and translate customer feedback into actionable graphic updates quickly and efficiently.
- Maintain awareness of competitor landscape, retail trends, and market opportunities within boys' apparel.
- Support seasonal presentations, trend boards, concept pitches, and customer meetings as needed.
- Ensure accuracy, organization, and timely execution throughout all phases of development.
Requirements (Must-Have)
- 4-8+ years of graphic design experience within apparel, preferably boys, youth, or licensed categories.
- Strong understanding of mass market and/or off-price retail environments.
- Ability to design commercially successful graphics across multiple aesthetics and price tiers.
- Strong typography, layout, illustration, and color sensibility.
- Experience working with licensed products is a plus.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Trend-aware with a strong eye for commercial graphics and market relevance.
- Background in boys' graphic tees, fleece, sleepwear, or coordinated sets preferred.
- Experience designing for retailers such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Target, Ross Stores, TJX Companies, or similar accounts preferred.
- Understanding of value engineering and print techniques appropriate for large-volume retail.
- Ability to pivot between trend-driven fashion graphics and core evergreen programs.
Technical Skills (Required)
- Proficiency in design software: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Should be able to use these tools to create high-quality images, illustrations, and other graphic elements.
- Creativity: Come up with new and original ideas for the designs. Be able to think outside the box and come up with fresh perspectives on different licensed artworks.
- Strong understanding of design principles: strong knowledge of design principles, such as composition, color theory, and typography, and use these principles to create visually appealing and practical designs.
- Research and market analysis: research trends, licenses, buyers, and competitors to gather data to create a well-informed design. Should be able to identify problems, brainstorm solutions, and implement the best solution.
- Apparel graphic and print development: create apparel graphics, repeat patterns, placement prints, and production-ready files, including color separations, rotary repeats, and factory-ready specifications.
- Stay up-to-date on trends to be able to identify and incorporate trends into the work in a way that is both creative and commercial.
- General knowledge of apparel manufacturing: know fabric types, printing techniques, and construction methods to create feasible designs that can be accurately translated into production.
- Strong communication skills: clearly and concisely sketch and concept their ideas to communicate their vision to clients and collaborators.
- Mass-market and off-price retail design knowledge: develop commercially viable graphics and apparel concepts tailored to mass-market retail, off-price retail, and licensed apparel development.
