HireArt is helping TRI hire a UX/UI Designer - Human Behavior and Carbon Neutrality who is passionate about creating personalized, user-centric experiences that not only look great but also shape users’ real-world behavior.
In this role, you'll focus largely on mobile experience design and interface design for prototype research tools.
We're looking for someone with a Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, with 4+ years of experience in UX/UI design for native mobile applications. As a UX/UI Designer - Human Behavior and Carbon Neutrality, you will:
- Design mobile app and research prototype interfaces that adapt to user needs, preferences, and behaviors, to drive desired actions and outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research scientists and mobile developers, to translate research insights and user data into actionable design solutions, ensuring that features are implemented in ways that resonate with users and meet the study’s goals.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows that demonstrate how features will work within the app, ensuring these elements are designed for usability and can be easily adapted based on testing feedback and data-driven insights.
- Leverage user data and behavioral insights to inform design decisions, creating experiences that guide users towards specific actions or behaviors aligned with the research study’s objectives.
- Continuously gather feedback from users and research teams, refining personalized features and interfaces to improve the app’s effectiveness in influencing user behavior.
- Contribute to the agile development process by defining design requirements for personalized features, participating in sprint planning, and iterating based on user feedback and research insights.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of experience in UX/UI design for native mobile applications
- Strong portfolio demonstrating experience in designing personalized user experiences that adapt to individual users’ preferences, habits, or behaviors
- Ability to work independently in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment, with excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills; comfortable receiving and incorporating constructive feedback
- Proficient in Figma with a solid understanding of industry standards, including aligning designs to native platform features
- Expertise in user-centered design, focusing on creating intuitive and engaging interfaces that prioritize user needs and personalization over aesthetic choices alone
- Experience conducting evaluative research on UI prototypes and making updates to the design based on the results
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience designing for apps with features intended to shape or improve user habits and behaviors
- Experience working closely with research scientists or in an industry research environment
- Experience designing data visualizations, interactive features, and/or generative AI-based features
- Portfolio demonstrating experience designing for both mobile and non-mobile surfaces (e.g., web or desktop applications)
- Understanding of accessibility principles and how to integrate them into personalized mobile experiences
- Experience designing for internationalization
- Familiarity with design systems / style guides

Commitment: _This is a full-time, 9-month contract position staffed via HireArt. This position will be remote with preference given to candidates based in the Bay Area who are open to working onsite in Los Altos, CA.
