Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing and creating content for Health Share’s website, social media and social promotion campaigns. It also includes designing various print materials such as flyers, newsletters, billboards, and reports using desktop publishing software. The role collaborates with internal and external colleagues, partners, and vendors to develop materials that effectively communicate key information to members. This is achieved by using plain language and universal design techniques, maintaining branding guidelines, following accessibility standards, and considering the diverse needs of the audience. Additionally, this role ensures that subcontractor materials and website content meet compliance standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Member Materials Development and Production

  • Design, review, and produce content for all member-facing materials (e.g., member handbook, brochures, flyers, and other member collateral) ensuring all Health Share materials meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Work with staff to produce visually engaging reports, newsletters, and educational fact sheets
  • Coordinate and oversee translations, design, printing, production, and distribution of member materials.

Compliance and Policy Development

  • Design and review all website content for regulatory and compliance standards for plain language and accessibility standards using digital software tools
  • Lead oversight process to ensure all subcontractor digital materials meet regulatory and compliance requirements.

Website and Social Media

  • Write, edit, and produce content for digital and social media content (e.g., website, social media posts, etc.) that enhance brand awareness, and community engagement of diverse audiences.
  • Stay informed about trends, digital tools, and promotional strategies that enhance brand awareness and engagement
  • Maintain Health Share website collaborating with multiple departments to ensure the website has accurate and updated content, optimizing content for search engine optimization (SEO), and user design, with a focus on clarity and audience engagement
  • Work collaboratively with Communications and Public Affairs Director to inform media strategy.

Brand Management & Communications Planning

  • Uphold brand identity and expand brand awareness among staff, stakeholders, and community.
  • Collaborate with Community Engagement staff on material development and SWAG availability.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Oregon Health Plan and its role in serving Oregonians
  • Knowledge of Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Core Skills and Abilities:

  • Good writing and editing skills, including applying health literacy and/or plain language practices for diverse populations
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set goals independently and prioritize work—balancing competing deadlines and complex topics with resulting positive outcomes
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite products and developing visually engaging, educational content using universal design principles
  • Ability to write across social media platforms, promotional campaigns, community partner materials and member focused materials that centers intersectionality, health equity and engages diverse audiences
  • Proficient use of Content Management Systems, project management platforms, and email tools such as Constant Contact
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more
  • Understanding of website design, graphic design and desktop publishing.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence and cultural agility. Able to collaborate effectively within a racially and culturally diverse team environment.

Physical Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform repetitive finger, wrist, shoulder or neck movement for at least 6-8 hours/day
  • Ability to see and read for at least 6-8 hours/day
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly for at least 3-6 hours/day

Cognitive Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to focus on and comprehend information and learn new skills and abilities
  • Ability to assess a situation and seek or determine appropriate resolution
  • Ability to accept direction and feedback, as well as tolerate and manage stress

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in graphic design, communications, or related field
  • A commitment to promote health equity, and access to health benefits
  • Proficiency in design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or other software

Preferred:

  • Project Management skills
  • Experience working in health care and nonprofit sectors, specifically with diverse populations
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, art or related field
  • Experience with distilling complex information into plain language or experience with media relations
  • Experience participating in coalition outreach efforts, grassroots/community organizing, or best community engagement practices
