Software Engineer - Remote | Remote | £600 - £720/day
We're working with a leading innovator in national transport infrastructure technology on this exciting opportunity. You will be at the heart of the UK's transit systems, building and scaling the transaction processing engines that keep millions of passengers moving every day.
This is a high-impact role where you will leverage Java Enterprise (J2EE) and modern DevOps practices to maintain critical transport standards (ITSO) and drive the evolution of large-scale fulfillment platforms. If you thrive on solving complex engineering challenges within a mission-critical environment, this is your next big move.
The Role
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of the HOPS and Actora product suites using Java and RESTful services.
- Own the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) from architectural design through to automated deployment and production support.
- Supercharge DevOps delivery pipelines using Git, Jenkins, and Groovy to ensure rapid, reliable releases.
- Collaborate in an Agile Scrum environment to optimize platform performance and message routing for national transport operators.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex escalations, working closely with third-party clients and internal service desks to ensure 24/7 system availability.
What You'll Need
- Deep expertise in Java Enterprise development and building large-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency with Relational Databases (SQL) and data indexing tools like Elasticsearch.
- Hands-on experience with modern testing frameworks including JUnit, Cucumber, and automated QA workflows.
- Solid understanding of DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines, specifically Jenkins, Git, and Groovy scripting.
- Familiarity with a diverse tech stack including Angular, Node.js, and C# to support cross-platform integrations.
- Prior experience with ITSO transport standards or similar high-volume transaction processing systems is highly desirable.
What's On Offer
- Highly competitive daily rate (£600 - £720) reflecting the critical nature of the infrastructure.
- 100% remote working flexibility, allowing you to deliver impact from anywhere in the UK.
- The chance to work on "National Importance" projects that underpin the UK's transport network.
- A collaborative, Agile engineering culture focused on best practices and modern tooling.
