Principal Software Engineer

The Role

• Design and evolve core backend systems for the unsecured installment lending product.
• Lead architecture and technical direction across underwriting, pricing, offer generation, funding, servicing, and borrower lifecycle workflows.
• Translate product, economic, and operational requirements into scalable technical systems.
• Partner with machine learning engineers and data teams to productionize models and integrate decisioning systems.
• Influence architectural decisions across team boundaries and contribute to the broader lending platform roadmap.
• Mentor engineers and act as a technical leader, driving alignment and execution through ambiguity.

What You'll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, plus 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience designing distributed systems and event-driven architectures, with real-world handling of fault tolerance.
• Proficiency in an object-oriented language like Python, Java, Kotlin, C#, or Ruby, with deep experience in APIs and service-oriented backend systems.
• Proven track record of leading technical design and delivery for large-scope, business-critical systems.
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments with evolving product requirements and system boundaries.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, working closely with product, analytics, compliance, and other stakeholders.
