Lead Software Engineer | Remote-Friendly | £75,000 - £80,000

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will spearhead the development of secure, scalable Python services within a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. You’ll be at the forefront of digital transformation, blending expert API design with modern DevOps practices to deliver services that matter to the public sector.

The Role

  • Lead the design and development of scalable, cloud-native Python applications (Django/Flask) following GDS standards.
  • Oversee complex API architecture and integrations using Apigee to connect distributed services and Pega systems.
  • Define and enforce robust SSDLC practices, ensuring high-security coding standards and technical assurance.
  • Spearhead CI/CD automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and GitHub Actions.
  • Mentor a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

What You'll Need

  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and web frameworks like Django or Flask for large-scale enterprise services.
  • Deep experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and managing cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Strong background in API development, integration, and management tools such as Apigee.
  • Practical experience with PostgreSQL, JavaScript frameworks, and DevOps tools including Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven leadership experience in an Agile environment, ideally delivering projects within public sector governance frameworks.
