Senior Backend Engineer – Remote (Canada or Latin America based)

The Company

We're partnered with a YC-backed startup building AI employees for specialty healthcare clinics. They’re starting with veterinary practices and expanding into areas like dental and physical therapy. Their AI agents handle end-to-end front and back-office tasks like answering calls, managing records, and refilling prescriptions, without any human in the loop.

They're solving a critical problem: administrative bottlenecks caused by staff shortages and outdated workflows in healthcare clinics. Their solution is already live with real customers and scaling quickly.

The Opportunity

They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their small, fast-moving team. This person will take ownership of the core backend systems and infrastructure that power their AI platform, working on challenges that sit at the intersection of healthcare, real-time communication, and automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
• Develop and manage third-party API integrations with external healthcare systems
• Design and improve cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• (Bonus) Contribute to real-time communication systems using WebSockets, WebRTC, or similar technologies
• Ensure high reliability, uptime, and performance of backend systems

Ideal Candidate

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and cloud services (ideally GCP)
• DevOps experience or mindset, comfortable with CI/CD, infrastructure, and monitoring
• Experience working with third-party APIs and complex systems
• Bonus: Experience with real-time communications (e.g. WebSockets, WebRTC)
• Bonus: Exposure to or interest in healthcare technology
• Self-starter who thrives in a startup environment and communicates well
• Able to work independently, think creatively, and take initiative
