Staff Software Engineer

Greylock has a long history of backing category-defining enterprise security companies such as Wiz, Palo Alto Networks, and Rubrik. We recently invested in a next-generation cybersecurity startup that is building AI agents to execute core security workflows at machine speed autonomously. The company is led by an exceptional team of former engineering and product leaders who previously scaled a multi-billion-dollar security startup before starting this venture.

They're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to be the first front-end hire on the team. This is a foundational role: rather than focusing on pixel-perfect UI, you’ll be responsible for establishing the architecture, frameworks, and systems that future engineers can easily build on. Your work will prioritize scalability, developer velocity, and long-term maintainability.

What You’ll Do

• Define and implement the front-end architecture, frameworks, and tooling that will serve as the backbone for the engineering team.
• Build core design system components, state management patterns, and APIs that enable scalable development.
• Partner with design and product to translate user needs into technical foundations, balancing flexibility and speed over polish in the early stages.
• Establish best practices for testing, performance, and maintainability to ensure a robust, production-ready codebase.
• Mentor and guide future front-end engineers, setting high standards for technical excellence.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in front-end engineering, ideally with expertise in laying out architecture in early-stage companies or new product lines.
• Deep expertise in React (or modern frameworks), TypeScript, and modern build tooling.
• Strong systems-thinking mindset: you enjoy building the internal foundations that others build upon.
• Pragmatic approach, knowing when to build for scale and when to ship quickly.

Location: Open to remote, but the startup has locations in New York/San Francisco.
