Our Purpose:
At Gardyn, we’re on a mission to make fresh, healthy food accessible to every home. We believe growing food should be simple, sustainable, and joyful and we’re building smart indoor gardening technology that helps people eat better while using fewer natural resources.
We’re a fast-growing, mission-driven company that cares deeply about impact, innovation, and how we show up for one another. Our work is rooted in curiosity, ownership, and thoughtful growth and we’re excited to bring on leaders who want to help scale something meaningful.
The Opportunity:
We're hiring a Data Scientist to lead Gardyn's data-driven transformation. This is more than a heads-down analytics role - it's the chance to shape how an entire subscription business understands its customers, makes decisions, and builds the next generation of self-service data tools. You will own our data infrastructure, deliver rigorous analysis that influences leadership decisions, and grow data literacy across Finance, Marketing, CX, and Operations through mentorship and the thoughtful adoption of AI-driven analytics.
If you love translating messy data into clear narratives, get energized by mentoring others, and want to work with a modern stack - Motherduck, dbt, Hex, Dagster - we'd love to meet you.
What You’ll Do:
Ad hoc analysis & strategic business insights
- Conduct complex analyses across customer behaviors (web, app, membership) to uncover patterns that drive product and strategic decisions.
- Partner closely with Finance, CX, Marketing, and Ops to solve critical business problems and provide data-backed recommendations.
- Develop forecasting models that help stakeholders set goals, monitor pacing, and run scenario simulations.
- Translate complex findings into clear narratives and recommendations that influence leadership decisions.
Data tools, dashboards & self-service analytics
- Design and build standardized dashboards and KPI reporting across revenue, churn, engagement, and marketing performance.
- Develop and maintain semantic models that empower teams to access and analyze data independently.
- Establish data governance standards and best practices for data quality and consistency.
- Continuously optimize existing tools based on user feedback and evolving business needs.
Data warehouse & engineering excellence
- Maintain, optimize, and evolve our data warehouse architecture to support scaling analytics needs.
- Lead data pipeline development, ETL processes, and integration of new data sources across the company.
- Partner with engineering to establish data infrastructure best practices and documentation.
- Improve data efficiency and shape long-term data architecture decisions.
Mentorship, data literacy & AI-driven analytics
- Build and mentor a network of data champions across Finance, Marketing, CX, and Ops
- Establishes best practices, training, and frameworks for the ethical and effective use of AI/ML in data analysis
- Support teams in implementing AI-powered analytics tools and interpreting AI-driven insights
- Foster a data-driven culture through regular training, documentation, and knowledge sharing
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong command of SQL and Python (pandas, scikit-learn, visualization libraries).
- Experience with Motherduck (DuckDB-based cloud warehouse) preferred; comparable experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or ClickHouse welcomed.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining dbt models, managing data lineage, transformation pipelines, and orchestration (Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect).
- Experience with data warehouse modeling - Kimball fact/dimension, normalization.
- Skilled at building interactive dashboards and analytics workflows in Hex (or comparable tools), with semantic modeling layers (Cube, MetricFlow).
- Solid statistical foundation: experimentation design, forecasting, causal inference, and analytical rigor.
- Subscription-business experience strongly preferred - familiarity with retention, recurring revenue, and LTV modeling.
- Master's degree in a scientific field preferred.
- You communicate clearly across audiences - making complex findings legible to executives, marketers, and engineers alike.
- You think like a business owner - curious about the "why" behind every metric and motivated to translate data into strategic moves.
- You bring sharp analytical rigor - questioning assumptions, surfacing gaps in logic, and pressure-testing conclusions before they leave your hands.
- You have a mentorship mindset - patient, generous with your time, and energized by building data literacy in others.
- Highly collaborative with strong communication skills and a bias for action
- Detail-oriented with high standards for execution and a continuous test-and-learn mentality
- Deeply customer-focused, with a passion for improving the end-to-end customer experience and driving meaningful impact
