Systems Engineer

OVERVIEW
As an FTD Systems Engineer you will design and maintain scalable systems and solutions in Microsoft 365
(O365), VMware, Windows, Linux, Active Directory, email technologies, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Azure,
and backup & restore systems. You will champion innovative solutions to complex problems in a fast-paced
agile work environment, in coordination with resources throughout the organization. You will support and
improve the performance, reliability, observability, and security of an ecosystem of cutting-edge applications
serving FTD's customers and will collaborate with internal users at all levels to ensure exceptional employee
experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Active Directory / Entra ID
o Configuration of Azure App Registrations\Enterprise Apps
o Creation of conditional access polices
o Design and administration of multiple sites, forests, and domains
o Integration with DNS / LDAPS and Azure sync tools
o Security & policy management via OU design, GPOs, trusts, etc.
o Configuration of FSMO roles
- Administration of Microsoft 365 (O365) / Entra / Azure products including Exchange, Teams,
OneDrive, SharePoint, and Defender
- Windows Server (2008 – 2025) engineering and administration
o Performance analysis and improvement
o Upgrades and updates
o Security hardening
o High availability
- Configuration and management of email security solutions such as Defender for O365, Exchange
Online Protection (EOP), Barracuda, Mimecast, etc.
- Architect and oversee backup and restore solutions across systems including Microsoft 365 (e.g.
Spanning), VMware (e.g. Veeam, Zerto), Google Cloud Platform components, Atlassian Cloud, and
Windows & Linux operating systems
- VMware / Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE)
o Cluster architecture, administration, reliability, observability, and security
o VM provisioning, configuration, and operations
o Performance management and capacity planning
o Disaster Recovery with HCX, vSphere replication, DR orchestration, backup & restore, and
other technologies
- Linux administration in Red Hat / CentOS / Rocky Linux environments
- Engineering and administering solutions in Google Compute Engine (GCE)
- Work with project managers, vendors and infrastructure teams to architect business solutions
- Create and maintain technical, procedural, and educational documentation related to FTD's
infrastructure

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- 5+ years of relevant experience managing enterprise IT infrastructure in Windows / Linux and
VMware
- Experience implementing and managing VMware ESX HA, DRS and Virtual Center, ideally in Google
Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE)
- Strong capabilities in design, implementation, and administration of Microsoft 365 (O365) Cloud
services and Azure migration tools
- Preferred experience with patch management tools such as WSUS, MECM, Azure Update or Shavlik
- Extensive experience with Active Directory design, OU administration, GPO administration, FSMO
management, AD security, directory replication, sites and services, domains/trusts, and windows
DNS
- Minimum 4 years' experience with messaging services in Microsoft Exchange, M365 connectors,
transport rules, mail flow, message trace, and MS Defender for Office 365 policies
- Experience with email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and anti-spam / anti-malware solutions,
deliverability monitoring and improvement, and 3rd party email platforms (e.g. Responsys, Constant
Contact, SendGrid)
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, Azure, or similar cloud experience and/or certification is desired
- Degree in computer science, engineering or similar technical discipline, or equivalent combination of
education and experience
- Strong experience with network technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, DHCP, and NTP, as well as
VMware networking concepts
- Working knowledge of Atlassian products including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket, with
administration experience a plus
- Experience in automation with scripting tools such as PowerShell, Python, shell scripts, VBScript,
and/or batch files
- Experience building and maintaining high availability and disaster recovery architectures
- Exposure to Source Code Management practices, and tools such as Bitbucket and GitHub
- Demonstrated analytical, diagnostic troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced and dynamic
environment
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to research, understand, design, implement
and maintain technologies, and promote them to diverse audiences at varying levels of the
organization
- Demonstrated desire and ability to be self-directed, take ownership, share knowledge, and establish
a prominent level of credibility
- Ability to work well independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams
