The Opportunity

Flock’s product success comes from intelligent hardware, state-of-the-art machine learning, and scalable cloud software all working together as a single, powerful platform. To reliably deliver and continue to grow the capabilities of this platform at an ever-increasing pace, testing across technologies is needed, requiring complex and challenging infrastructure. We are looking for an engineer who is passionate about building new things to achieve what used to be impossible, and is excited about accelerating the development and delivery process, no matter what technology is required.

You will collaborate closely with device, ML, software, and SRE teams to:

• Design and implement test processes that validate ML accuracy and decision logic within the device application.
• Build infrastructure to test and validate cloud–device interactions.
• Architect and develop advanced device simulators and virtual environments to minimize reliance on physical hardware, accelerating test cycles from weeks to hours.
• Create and maintain hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) automation frameworks to ensure seamless performance on custom hardware.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in cross-functional development and firmware release processes, driving continuous improvement.

The Skillset

• Has 5+ years of professional experience in software development, particularly in systems programming, test automation, or developer infrastructure.
• Is proficient in a systems language like C++, and has experience with or a strong willingness to learn Kotlin.
• Has hands-on experience working with embedded systems, IoT devices, or the Android platform (AOSP).
• Thinks like a builder and has a proven track record of creating test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, or developer tools from the ground up.
• Is passionate about process improvement and enjoys the challenge of making complex systems faster, more reliable, and easier to work with.
• Is a natural problem-solver who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and excels at influencing without direct authority.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, developing device emulators is a plus

The First 30 Days

• Review at least 1 PRs
• Pair Program with a team member on at least 1 patches
• Contribute to Embedded ML documentation
• Start contributing on first project

The First 60 Days

• Review at least 1 PRs

• Pair Program with a team member on at least 1 patches

• Contribute to Embedded ML documentation

• Continue contributing on first project:

• complete 9 tickets, or a cumulative time effort of 96 hours

• complete at least 2 unit tests

90 Days & Beyond

• Help complete first project
• Help plan, breakdown, start working next project
• Across both projects, complete 12 tickets, or a cumulative time effort of 128 hour

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $175,000 and $200,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
