About the job:
We are hiring a Senior Technical Designer to take ownership of gameplay design and prototyping on upcoming VR adaptations. As the design lead on your project, you’ll take ownership of prototyping core systems and mechanics in Unreal Engine, translating design goals into playable realities while bridging design and engineering.
You’ll lead features from prototype to final implementation, supporting engineering throughout production with clear design intent, regular feedback, and iteration. This role blends hands-on design work with strategic leadership to shape both the moment-to-moment gameplay and overall creative direction.
This is a fully remote role; we encourage applicants from the EU, UK, or US East Coast time zones.
Some of the work you would be doing:
- Prototype gameplay mechanics, systems, and UI/UX flows in Unreal Engine (Blueprints), bringing high-level concepts to life with functional, testable interactions
- Take ownership of VR interface and interaction design, ensuring features are intuitive, legible, and comfortable in-headset
- Own feature design from concept through final execution–creating documentation, facilitating handoff, and providing ongoing feedback to engineering throughout implementation
- Work collaboratively with artists, engineers, and producers to align design goals with technical realities
- Lead playtesting and iterate rapidly based on feedback and insights
- Translate creative direction into actionable, scope-aware design decisions
- Contribute to the overall vision of the project, helping to shape player experience and pacing
- Mentor junior or mid-level designers as needed, guiding best practices in both creative design and technical prototyping
You might be a good fit for us if you have…
- 5+ years of experience in game design with at least 2 years in a technical design or systems-focused role
- 2-3 years of experience working with VR/MR/XR
- Experience shipping at least one commercial title (VR preferred)
- Hands-on experience in Unreal Engine, especially Blueprint-based prototyping
- Strong understanding of VR game design, including player comfort, physical interaction, and immersive UI/UX design best practices
- Proven ability to prototype and test UI/UX elements–such as menus, HUDs, interaction prompts, and special interfaces–directly in engine
- Ability to take a feature from concept to final implementation, including ownership of cross-discipline collaboration and iteration after handoff
- Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineering teams
- Excellent documentation skills, including the ability to create clear design specs, flowcharts, wireframes, and system breakdowns
- Ability to work autonomously while driving collaboration across remote teams
- A passion for immersive design and pushing what’s possible in VR gameplay
Bonus if you have…
- Prior experience leading a shipped game (VR or otherwise)
- Background in scripting or light programming (C++)
- Familiarity with adapting existing IP into new gameplay formats
- Strong analytical skills, including balance tuning and gameplay pacing
