Senior Software Developer

- Reporting to the FIELDBOSS Director of Engineering
The primary responsibility of the Senior Software Engineer is to lead and contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of FIELDBOSS software solutions. This role includes a combination of technical expertise, and collaboration with other team members. The Senior Software Engineer will ensure that the software development process is efficient and aligned with organizational goals and best practices. Mentoring, coaching, and leadership are essential qualities for this role.
Objectives
- Maximize the quality and efficiency of existing code and Engineering processes.
- Assist with improving development best practices.
- Design new code, features, and processes to ensure scalability of FIELDBOSS.
- Maintain existing versions of FIELDBOSS code base and supporting utilities.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure all technical areas of FIELDBOSS align with project requirements and company goals.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior developers.
Responsibilities
- Develop new application features for FIELDBOSS using C#, JavaScript, T-SQL, AL, and Power FX.
- Create Dynamics 365 Plugins, Custom Workflow Activities, JavaScript libraries, Canvas Apps and Power Automate Flows.
- Maintain and enhance existing FIELDBOSS code and customizations.
- Customize and create Business Central code units, pages, tables, queries, and reports.
- Design and develop unique software features for individual FIELDBOSS customers.
- Develop reusable engineering utilities and assets.
- Create and deploy FIELDBOSS upgrades, patches, and hotfixes.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers and ensure that the team follows best practices and coding standards.
- Resolve issues and technical challenges that arise in previous versions of FIELDBOSS.
- Conduct and participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and ensure that best practices are followed.
- Create and maintain documentation for the software architecture, codebase, and development processes.
- Collaborate with testers to ensure FIELDBOSS meets quality standards.
- Assist with the automation of manual engineering processes.
- Willing to work after business hours when required.
Measurement
- Completion of assigned tasks on time.
- Quality of FIELBOSS code measured by product stability.
- Ability to independently resolve bugs and rollout fixes.
- Collaboration with team members and other departments.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and new technologies.
- Alignment with company goals to deliver a quality product, improve revenue growth and deliver operational efficiencies.
- Improve efficiencies when deploying FIELDBOSS patches, hotfixes, and upgrades.
- Ability to provide effective mentorship to improve the performance of junior engineers.
Position Progression
Stage 1 (0-2 Months):
- Onboarding / Self-Learning
- Learn the Engineering team structure and infrastructure used by Engineering.
- Receive FIELDBOSS product training led by colleagues.
- Become familiar with best practices and Engineering processes.
- Gain understanding of the code infrastructure.
- Become familiar with the main code components in the core Visual Studio projects.
- Provide code support in new product development or in support scenarios.
- Troubleshoot issues with FIELDBOSS plugins and JavaScript in customer environments.
- Ability to update, develop and install hotfixes.
Stage 2 (3-4 Months):
- Continue self-learning and product knowledge improvements.
- Identify areas of improvement for Engineering best practices and other process documentation.
- Provide recommendations for areas of code improvements and new features.
- Increase hands-on coding for feature development.
- Assist with FIELDBOSS deployments, upgrades, patches, and hotfixes if required.
- Provide the support team with assistance on key areas of the code base when required.
- Recommend areas for process automation improvements.
Stage 3 (5-12 Months):
- Continue self-learning and product knowledge improvements.
- Actively lead in the development of FIELDBOSS features.
- Fully identify areas for code improvement.
- Implement improved processes for deployment of FIELDBOSS installations, upgrades, patches, and hotfixes.
- Provide regular feedback and assistance to junior engineers.
Stage 4 (12+ Months)
- Fully support the FIELDBOSS code base.
- Regular contribution to the roadmap features.
- Ongoing improvement of processes, automation, and development efficiency.
- Use of development AI tools to improve coding efficiencies.
