About The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Designer to join our Product Team at RND Fortis GmbH. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing our digital products and regional brands through innovative design solutions. Your primary focus will be on developing user-centered prototypes, visualizations, and UX strategies that improve usability and engagement for our target audiences, especially new and young demographics. You will work closely with Product Owners, Frontend Developers, and Stakeholders to translate concepts into functional, aesthetically appealing designs that align with our standards and design systems.

This position combines strategic thinking with hands-on implementation. You will be responsible for testing prototypes, conducting user research, and participating in collaborative planning sessions such as product reviews and retrospectives. Your expertise will help shape the future of our digital offerings, ensuring they are competitive, accessible, and engaging. Additionally, you will support visual design tasks like creating graphics when needed, contributing to a cohesive and compelling brand presence across all platforms.

Qualifications

• Academic or professional degree in Design, Media Design, Software Development, or a related field with a focus on digital design.
• Several years of experience in developing digital products, ideally within journalism or digital media environments.
• Proficiency with design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Jira, Slack, Adobe Creative Suite, and Asana.
• Experience in independently organizing user research projects, including interviews, surveys, and usability tests, with a strong ability to interpret findings for design decisions.
• Familiarity and comfort working with AI-powered tools like Claude, Figma AI, Large Language Models, and agent-based systems, with a willingness to experiment with new processes and technologies.
• Excellent command of German, with at least C1 proficiency in both written and spoken language.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test prototypes, visualizations, and UX strategies to enhance user experience and digital product competitiveness.
• Collaborate with Frontend Developers to create and refine components within our design system, ensuring consistency and reusability.
• Conduct user tests, user research, and desk research independently, deriving insights to inform and justify design decisions.
• Present and discuss design proposals and concepts with stakeholders and external partners, managing coordination and feedback processes.
• Engage actively in product planning, review sessions, retrospectives, and refinement meetings to align design efforts with project goals.
• Support visual design tasks, including the creation of graphics and visual assets, to maintain brand consistency across all digital channels.

What You Bring

• A degree or professional background in Design, Media Design, Software Development, or a similar discipline, with a focus on digital design.
• Proven experience in designing and developing digital products, preferably within journalism or media sectors.
• Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Jira, Slack, Adobe Creative Suite, and Asana, with a confident and efficient working style.
• Strong organizational skills demonstrated through managing multiple user research projects and engaging directly with target audiences via interviews, surveys, or usability tests.
• Interest and experience in working with AI-driven tools and exploring innovative processes for product design.
• Excellent German language skills at C1 level or higher, both written and spoken.
