About The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team, focusing on building innovative technologies for our eCommerce and Loyalty platforms. In this role, you will work independently or with limited supervision to translate high-level business requirements into effective technical solutions. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-quality APIs and supporting systems that enhance the shopping experience for our customers. As a key member of our development team, you will mentor junior engineers, lead small project engagements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new features and improvements. Your expertise will directly contribute to the enhancement of our digital infrastructure, supporting Dollar General’s mission of serving others through innovative retail solutions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience in software development within an IT organization or equivalent educational background. A strong background in designing and developing RESTful APIs using .NET Framework or .NET Core with C# is essential. You should have at least 3+ years of experience supporting eCommerce applications, along with proficiency in relational databases such as Oracle, MSSQL, or Postgres. Experience with NoSQL databases like Cassandra or MongoDB is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience, is required. Additional expertise in deploying and managing applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is highly desirable. Familiarity with containers, orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and event-driven systems using messaging platforms like Kafka or RabbitMQ will give you an edge. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to gather requirements, and a commitment to writing clean, testable, and efficient code.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role include developing and debugging software to support new and existing applications, accounting for approximately 65% of your time. You will design changes to applications, ensuring they meet business needs and technical standards, which will constitute about 10% of your duties. Developing, executing, and documenting comprehensive unit and system-level test plans will be essential, representing around 15% of your responsibilities. Providing ongoing support for production applications on a 24/7 basis, along with participating in Agile methodologies and ceremonies, will make up the remaining responsibilities.

Specifically, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into well-defined API specifications. Monitoring and analyzing API performance metrics to identify and implement improvements is critical. You will also be responsible for maintaining thorough API documentation to facilitate developer and consumer understanding. Mentoring junior team members and participating in code reviews will ensure code quality and team growth. You will work closely with frontend and backend developers to ensure seamless API integration and application functionality. Employing test-driven development practices and integrating unit tests into your workflow will help maintain high standards of quality. Additionally, you will analyze complex issues within applications, develop reusable software components, and stay updated on emerging technologies relevant to your domain. Your problem-solving skills and proactive approach will be vital in delivering reliable, scalable solutions that support Dollar General’s digital initiatives.
