About The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Environment Concept Artist to join our team, primarily focusing on urban world design for a large-scale, playable city inspired by Hyderabad. This role is fundamental in shaping the visual identity and spatial coherence of the urban environment, translating architectural layouts, gameplay requirements, and cultural nuances into compelling visual concepts. The ideal candidate will possess strong fundamentals in concept art, a keen understanding of urban environments, and the ability to think holistically about cityscapes at multiple scales—from streets and neighborhoods to districts and major urban spaces. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a pioneering project that aims to create a believable, vibrant, and immersive city environment.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should demonstrate a robust portfolio showcasing environment concept art, particularly urban and architectural environments. A solid understanding of composition, perspective, lighting, and visual storytelling is essential. Candidates must have a strong sense of real-world scale and proportion, with the ability to interpret top-down layouts into believable street-level environments. Proficiency in Blender or Maya for quick blockouts and spatial exploration is required, along with excellent Photoshop or equivalent workflow skills for painting and final concept development. Familiarity with Indian urban environments, especially Hyderabad, will be considered a significant advantage, although not mandatory. Candidates should also possess good spatial reasoning, rapid iteration skills, and an understanding of how urban spaces facilitate movement, interaction, and gameplay.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive environment concepts for streets, neighborhoods, commercial zones, residential areas, and major urban spaces, ensuring cultural and architectural authenticity.
• Create visual identities that reflect a Hyderabad-inspired contemporary and future city, balancing tradition with innovation.
• Translate architectural layouts, terrain features, and gameplay mechanics into detailed visual concepts that inform environment design.
• Design street-level compositions with accurate scale, density, and spatial hierarchy to enhance realism and immersion.
• Develop building facades, frontage systems, boundary walls, setbacks, and urban edges that contribute to the city's visual diversity.
• Explore architectural variations while maintaining the overarching identity of the city.
• Define secondary environmental elements such as signage, advertising, shopfronts, street furniture, utility elements, vegetation, parking, and informal urban layers.
• Incorporate terrain features, slopes, and elevation changes into the environment to ensure seamless integration with the cityscape.
• Create quick 3D blockouts to validate scale, spatial relationships, and composition, followed by detailed paintovers and final concept frames.
• Collaborate closely with environment artists to ensure concepts are accurately translated into in-engine environments using Unreal Engine or similar tools.
• Iterate rapidly on concepts, exploring multiple design options to achieve the best visual and functional outcomes.
