About The Role

We are seeking a talented Backend Developer / AI Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be integral to building and maintaining the backend infrastructure that powers our AI-driven platform. Your work will involve developing scalable, reliable, and secure backend services that enable our AI solutions to function seamlessly for a diverse range of clients. You will be responsible for designing and optimizing search functionalities, integrating language models, and ensuring that large volumes of data are processed efficiently and securely. Collaboration with frontend, data, and AI teams will be essential as you contribute to the architecture decisions that shape our platform’s future. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, backend development, and social impact, shaping innovative solutions that serve societal needs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in backend development using modern, type-safe programming languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or C#. You should possess a solid understanding of API design and operation, including real-time and streaming interfaces, with expertise in concurrent programming and performance optimization. Experience with semantic search, AI-assisted retrieval, and handling large datasets is essential. Familiarity with integrating various AI and language model services, as well as containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools, is required. Strong knowledge of Linux environments, version control, and CI/CD pipelines will support your success in this role. Additionally, you should have a good grasp of both relational and search-oriented or vector databases, with a keen awareness of data privacy, security, and tenant separation. Excellent German language skills are necessary to communicate effectively within our team and with clients.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate backend services supporting our AI assistants, ensuring reliable access to knowledge bases for various client projects.
• Design and enhance search functionalities that accurately retrieve relevant content and prepare data for AI processing.
• Maintain the speed and searchability of large knowledge repositories, overseeing their construction, operation, and quality assurance.
• Integrate language models (LLMs) and prepare necessary data inputs to optimize AI performance.
• Implement and manage integrations with multiple AI providers and models, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data privacy standards.
• Ensure fast, reliable delivery of responses even under high concurrency, maintaining system stability and performance.
• Manage data segregation across different clients, implementing robust access controls and permissions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and collaborate closely with frontend, data, and AI teams to align technical solutions with project goals.
