About Fabrik
At Fabrik, our mission is simple but urgent: to end the epidemic of loneliness and social isolation by bringing people back together in real life. We transform underutilized real estate into thriving social spaces where people and communities can connect, create, and belong. Through our network of design-forward spaces and our Community-as-a-Service platform, Fabrik makes connection part of the everyday experience - not another calendar event.
The Role
We’re hiring a founding engineer who can own core systems, ship thoughtfully (and fast), and partner with our Product & Operations teams. You’ll be the primary builder for our product while balancing hands-on execution with pragmatic technical decision-making for a seed-stage product. We already have an MVP mobile app and internal admin dashboard, so you’ll come on board to help us take it to the next level as we prepare for product market fit and eventual growth into new geographies.
You’ll be a great fit if you…
- Have 5-10+ years building production web/mobile software and can own services end-to-end (infrastructure, code, tests, observability). You have experience with consumer apps and internal tooling, as well as recommendation systems to help us grow our member acquisition and retention.
- Thrive in early-stage environments. This includes scoping small slices of work, shipping weekly, communicating clearly, and iterating as we get member feedback. You love to work closely with Product and have high agency - you don’t wait to be assigned work, you take ownership once you know the priorities.
- Care about data modeling & event design and how it powers matchmaking/recommendations to enable more connections (our north star)
- Have SaaS/CRM integrations experience (webhooks, billing) and enjoy making messy third-party systems feel simple
- Think in a MVP-first way for everything you build: Our platform has varying levels of product maturity and sometimes we need a sophisticated workflow and integration, other times we need a scrappy experiment pushing data to our customer slack community
- Are comfortable keeping up with App store (Apple + Google) updates and being the owner of any app store submissions and communications
How we work
- Balance speed with quality: You’ll build quality features and raise the bar on reliability without over-architecting
- Member-obsessed: We prioritize features that increase IRL connections and retention. We start with the bare minimum needed, prove value, then productize
- Hybrid: NYC or Chicago proximity is a plus (but not required); periodic time in our Tribeca and Dumbo spaces speeds up learning. While we’re a fully remote team, we’d love for this team member to help us with on-the-ground testing from time to time
