About the Environment

You will join a multidisciplinary Agile team consisting of experienced software developers, a Scrum Master, and a Product Owner. The team has a strong technical foundation and works collaboratively to develop innovative search and AI solutions.

The department is focused on delivering an exceptional digital experience through advanced content platforms, intuitive navigation, and intelligent search capabilities. The solutions you develop will be used across websites, applications, and internal platforms that serve large numbers of users on a daily basis. The environment encourages innovation, knowledge sharing, and experimentation while operating within well-defined governance and compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities.

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing intelligent search and AI solutions. You will translate complex business challenges into scalable data products and contribute to the evolution of a future-proof search ecosystem. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and training machine learning models for semantic search and personalization.
• Optimizing embedding models and hybrid search solutions within Elasticsearch environments.
• Researching and implementing Large Language Model (LLM) use cases, including summarization, metadata generation, and other AI-driven applications.
• Translating business requirements into actionable data products and insights.
• Designing dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights effectively.
• Collaborating closely with developers, the Product Owner, and Scrum Master to deliver scalable solutions.
• Monitoring, evaluating, and improving model performance, quality, and explainability.
• Supporting AI governance, compliance initiatives, and risk management processes.
• Coaching team members in data-driven ways of working and helping establish robust data practices.

Requirements

We are looking for a Data Scientist who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to engage stakeholders and communicate complex concepts effectively. Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP)
• Proven expertise in information retrieval, semantic search, embeddings, and Large Language Model integration.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and hybrid search architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with search evaluation methodologies and metrics such as nDCG, MAP, and MRR.
• Advanced Python programming skills.
• Experience working in notebook environments, such as Databricks.
• Ability to balance innovation with governance, compliance, and risk management requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with machine learning model monitoring and explainability.
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices and software development best practices.
• Experience with dashboarding, data visualization, and storytelling.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and multidisciplinary teams.
• Basic knowledge of Java is considered a plus.
