Senior Software Engineer — Agentic Finance Infrastructure (MCP)

Company Description

Era is building the model-agnostic finance layer for AI — a user-owned MCP server ("Era Context") that exposes real financial data (accounts, transactions, spending, cash flow) as tools any AI assistant can use. Instead of another walled-garden finance app, Era lets Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible agent become a genuinely useful financial advisor, grounded in the user's real data. We're an SEC-registered RIA with a live product, real users, and infrastructure partners.

Role Description

This is a U.S. remote role for a Senior Software Engineer who wants to build at the frontier of agentic finance. You'll work directly on Era Context, our MCP server. Designing and maintaining the tool schemas and endpoints that let LLMs query and act on financial data safely, extending our connector integrations, and building the backend systems (transaction sync, categorization, insights, automation rules) that power it. You'll be working in genuinely new territory — there's no established playbook for "backend engineering for MCP servers," so you'll help write it.

Qualifications

• Experience building with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), or strong familiarity with tool-calling / function-calling patterns in LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini)
• Strong backend skills (Python, Node.js, C#, or Java)
• Comfort with cloud-native environments (Docker/Kubernetes, AWS/Azure/GCP)
• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, message queues, observability
• Experience with structured/unstructured data, ideally time-series or financial data
• Bonus: you've actually used an MCP connector (Claude, Cursor, etc.) and have opinions about what makes a good one
• Comfortable in a small, fast-moving startup with tight feedback loops
• Clear communicator, collaborative
