Lead AI Full-Stack Software Engineer

We are seeking a talented Lead AI Full-Stack Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement AI systems and applications for our self-service engineering platform. This leadership role combines advanced expertise in software development and data engineering, and includes mentoring team members, driving strategic technical initiatives, and fostering collaboration to enhance productivity and automation within our global client’s innovative insurance ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of back-end systems, microservices, and REST APIs while ensuring high performance and scalability
• Collaborate closely with architects, senior engineers, DevOps teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders to drive the seamless integration and delivery of solutions
• Mentor and guide team members in adopting best practices for software engineering and AI integration
• Define and implement AI-driven features utilizing tools like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, while driving innovation in AI technologies
• Develop and oversee front-end solutions with proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ReactJS, and React Hooks, ensuring adherence to modern UI/UX standards
• Establish and refine processes for prompt engineering to enhance AI outputs and improve system performance
• Act as a key contributor to the integration of AI capabilities within the Travelers Engineering Platform (TEP), facilitating the automation of complex user workflows
• Provide strategic input and leadership in managing partially defined scopes of work, ensuring alignment with high-level project objectives and timelines
• Write clean, maintainable, scalable code in Python while driving code quality and best practices across the team
• Lead improvements in cloud-based architecture with a focus on Anthropic Claude, Amazon Web Services, and fault-tolerant design
• Drive initiatives for continuous learning and improvement within the team, fostering an environment of technical growth and innovation

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing and developing back-end systems, microservices, and REST APIs in complex, enterprise-scale environments
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and mentoring engineers in both collaborative and independent settings (1+ years)
• Proficiency in TypeScript and expert knowledge of tools like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot
• Demonstrated expertise in MCP, AI Agents, and prompt engineering with a proven ability to scale these technologies for production workloads
• Advanced experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ReactJS, and React Hooks to build responsive and maintainable front-end solutions
• Strong competency in cloud technologies, particularly Amazon Web Services, with experience leading cloud-native solutions
• Advanced Python development skills for building and scaling AI systems
• Strong understanding of cross-functional workflows and the ability to guide teams in managing ambiguity and navigating partially defined challenges
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English (B2 level and higher)

Nice to have

• Experience leading or collaborating closely with DevOps teams to enable seamless CI/CD processes within engineering workflows
• Background in Node.js API and related server-side technologies with the ability to provide high-level guidance or solutions for their implementation
• Strategic and visionary mindset to influence technical direction and align engineering efforts with business goals
