Data Scientist (Statistics/Math Focus)

As we scale our analytics platform, we’re looking for a Data Scientist with a strong statistics or mathematics background to join our fully remote team and unlock the next wave of predictive and prescriptive analytics for higher‑ed.

What you’ll do

• Model the future – design, train, and validate statistical and machine‑learning models that predict student performance, retention, and program ROI.
• Interrogate data at scale – wrangle multi‑terabyte datasets from LMS, SIS, and assessment systems; build repeatable pipelines in Python or Kotlin for production deployment on AWS.
• Experiment & iterate – formulate hypotheses, run A/B and quasi‑experimental studies, and communicate insights that influence product direction.
• Quantify uncertainty – champion rigorous inferential techniques (Bayesian & frequentist) and drive best practices in sampling, power analysis, and causal inference.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally – partner with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to translate complex findings into intuitive dashboards and recommendations.
• Elevate data culture – mentor analysts, review code/statistical methods, and help refine our experimentation framework and documentation standards.

What sets you up for success

• Education: MSc/PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Toolbox: Expert -level SQL and Python (Pandas, scikit‑learn, statsmodels / PyMC); bonus points for Kotlin/Quarkus or R experience.
• Stat chops: Deep knowledge of regression, hierarchical models, GLMs, time‑series, and experimental design.
• ML know‑how: Comfortable with feature engineering, cross‑validation, model interpretability, and deploying models to production (Docker, AWS SageMaker or similar).
• Storytelling: Track record of transforming complex analyses into clear, business‑ready narratives and visualizations (Tableau, Superset, or similar).
• Mindset: Curious, pragmatic, and driven to make a measurable impact on learner success in a distributed environment.
