Hydropower Engineer

The Energy and Security Group (ESG) is looking to hire a Hydropower Engineer with experience in master planning, hydropower resource assessments, technical feasibility studies, and grid integration and dispatch assessments. Job Description

The Asia Development Bank (ADB) is funding a Master Plan for Papua New Guinea’s power sector. ESG seeks a hydropower engineer to support hydropower assessments, including: hydro resource assessments, technical and economic evaluation of potential hydropower projects, grid integration and dispatch analysis, and hydropower scenario development. The Hydropower Engineer will work as part of a team to support the development of PNG’s Power Sector Master Plan.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with specialization in hydropower
• 10+ years experience in hydropower project development, feasibility analysis, and system integration.
• Familiarity with hydrological modeling turbine selection, and reservoir operations.
• Experience in developing countries.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with specialization in hydropower.
• Experience with estimating CAPEX/OPEX for hydropower projects.
• Demonstrated experience modeling hydropower generation and dispatch scenarios.
• Experience working in Pacific Islands or in Papua New Guinea.
• Experience working with ADB or MDB financing.
