Emotionally Speaking is a Greater New York City mental wellness tech startup. We help people with real life challenges through a blend of ancient wisdom and AI. Our flagship app, The Wisdom Tree, allows users to receive guidance from an AI monk or philosopher—anytime, anywhere.
We’re a small, passionate team building something deeply meaningful. We’re seeking a full-time senior software engineer to join us in this pivotal stage as we refine and expand our app and platform.
What You'll Do
- Own and maintain backend services that power our mobile and web app experiences
- Collaborate with the frontend developer and product lead to ensure smooth feature rollouts
- Optimize database performance and ensure backend stability under growing traffic
- Write API endpoints and integrating them with AI services
- Participate in code reviews, architecture planning, and occasional rapid-response bug fixes
- Collaborate with our AI team to bring new features to production
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 3–5 years of backend development experience
- Proven experience with technologies such as Node.js, Express, MongoDB, AWS, JavaScript, Python, or similar stacks
- Strong system design skills
- Strong understanding of secure API development and integration
- Experience with setting up and maintaining CI/CD code pipelines
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineered (preferred)
- Experience taking apps to production
- Passion for mental wellness, technology for good, and building with intention
- Self-motivated and comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-evolving environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Proactive learner, out of the box thinking, and self-motivated
