Role Overview
The Senior Software Engineering Manager: Web is responsible for leading the development,
optimization, and governance of the organization’s web platforms and applications. This role ensures
secure, scalable, and high-performing web solutions that deliver seamless digital experiences, while
aligning with enterprise engineering and digital strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Web Strategy & Leadership
• Define and execute the web engineering strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with
enterprise architecture and digital channel priorities.
• Champion modernization initiatives such as progressive web apps (PWAs), micro-frontends,
cloud-native web delivery, and responsive design.
• Stay current with emerging web technologies (WebAssembly, headless CMS, API-driven
frontends) to drive innovation.
2. Web Platform Delivery
• Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of web applications, portals, and enterprise
digital front-ends.
• Ensure platforms are secure, high-performing, accessible, and cross-browser/device
optimized.
• Drive adoption of CI/CD pipelines, containerized web deployments, and automated testing
frameworks.
• Partner with backend, mobile, and integration teams to deliver seamless omni-channel
experiences.
3. Governance, Risk & Compliance
• Enforce secure coding standards and ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance
requirements (e.g., accessibility, data protection, PCI).
• Implement observability and performance monitoring frameworks for web applications.
• Align web engineering governance with enterprise-wide security, risk, and compliance
frameworks.
4. Leadership & People Development
• Lead and mentor web engineers, UI/UX developers, and front-end specialists.
• Build organizational expertise in modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue), CSS
architectures, and API-first design.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence across web teams.
• Drive career development, upskilling, and succession planning for web engineering talent.
5. Stakeholder & Vendor Management
• Partner with digital channels, product owners, and design teams to shape customer-centric
web experiences.
• Collaborate with external vendors, CMS providers, and hosting partners to ensure quality and
performance.
• Represent web engineering in enterprise engineering forums, steering committees, and digital
strategy boards.
Educational Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related
field (mandatory).
• Postgraduate qualification (MSc in IT/Software, MBA) – advantageous.
• Professional Certifications (preferred):
o Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP Architect or Developer).
o Front-end/web certifications (React, Angular, or equivalent).
o Agile/SAFe certifications (Scrum Master, Product Owner, SAFe Practitioner).
o DevOps/CI-CD certifications (Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, etc.).
Relevant Experience
• 10–12 years’ experience in web engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
• Proven track record in delivering large-scale, customer-facing web applications and portals.
• Strong background in front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) and back-end integration for
web platforms.
• Hands-on experience in responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and performance
optimization.
• Experience in cloud-native web delivery, CDN management, and web observability tools.
• Familiarity with fintech, banking, or large-scale enterprise digital platforms preferred.
