AI Software Engineer - Italy

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy software for clients with AI tools and AI multi-agent workflows embedded in them, that deliver tangible business value
• Build production-grade AI solutions, from prototyping to full-scale deployment in client environments
• Collaborate closely with clients, domain experts, and internal teams to translate complex business needs into practical AI solutions
• Experiment with state-of-the-art AI technologies, particularly in agent-based systems and LLM-driven architectures
• Contribute to building a scalable, high-quality AI engineering practice rooted in Swiss reliability and precision
• Bring a hands-on, solution-oriented approach to ambiguous technical challenges
• Help define ekona’s technical roadmap and actively shape our product and service offering

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software development.
• Proven experience designing and implementing AI multi-agent workflows.
• Strong programming expertise in Python and TypeScript, with experience in modern frameworks such as FastAPI, React, and Next.js
• Solid understanding of software architecture and ability to design scalable backend and frontend systems
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including deployment, networking, and security best practices
• Proficiency with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis) and ORM frameworks (SQLAlchemy, Prisma, etc.)
• Experience with version control and CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab pipelines)
• Working knowledge of AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn) and agentic/LLM frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI SDK, or similar)
• Understanding of API design (REST, GraphQL, WebSocket) and integration with third-party services
• Familiarity with frontend testing and performance optimization (Jest, Playwright, Lighthouse, Sentry, etc.)
• Experience building and consuming data pipelines or vector databases (e.g., Neo4j, Pinecone, FAISS, Weaviate) is a plus

Professional Skills

• Entrepreneurial mindset – self-starter comfortable in a startup environment where ownership, initiative, and flexibility are essential
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Strong communication skills in English (German or French is a plus)
• Experience in pharma/life sciences, supply chain, or financial services is a plus, but not mandatory
• A growth mindset and curiosity for exploring AI agents, automation, and system design
• Ability to work in fast-paced, iterative environments where research prototypes become production systems
