We are seeking a Data Scientist with 3-5 years of experience to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, enjoys working with large datasets, and is passionate about energy efficiency and sustainability. You’ll work closely with senior consultants and clients to analyze utility program data, develop predictive models, and generate actionable insights that shape energy policy and program design.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean, prepare, and integrate data from diverse sources for advanced analytics.
  • Analyze large datasets (e.g., energy consumption, financial, market research) to identify trends and causal impacts.
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning and statistical techniques.
  • Conduct econometric modeling and regression analysis to evaluate energy efficiency programs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure consistency and quality in research methods.
  • Document findings through visualizations, memos, and client reports.
  • Support senior staff in developing presentations, white papers, and technical documentation.
  • Document findings visually and/or verbally for memos and reports to clients and/or internal project teams.
  • Support senior staff with the development of presentations and papers.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in physics, applied mathematics, economics, statistics, environmental policy, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in data science, ideally within energy efficiency, utilities, or sustainability.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, SQL, or similar languages.
  • Experience with regression, classification, and time-series modeling (e.g., RF, SVM, LR).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; VBA knowledge is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to clean, manipulate, and analyze large datasets (500,000+ records).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in energy policy, building science, or sustainability.

Preferred:

  • Experience with energy efficiency program evaluation or DSM analytics.
  • Familiarity with IoT data and API integration.
  • Knowledge of TRMs, M&V protocols, or building energy modeling tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, OpenStudio).
  • Experience with SAS, Stata, or other statistical packages. Bachelor's or master's Degree in physics, applied mathematics, economics, statistics, environmental policy, or a related field
