Senior Design Systems Designer – Figma, AI & Accessibility

Remote

Skills: Design Systems Creation, Figma and AI coding tool.

Position Overview

  • Own and evolve an enterprise design system that powers digital experiences across web and native applications. This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, accessibility, and AI, maintaining the tokens, components, patterns, documentation, and governance that enable designers, engineers, and AI tools to build consistent experiences.
  • You’ll work hands-on across Figma and production, shape scalable token architecture, establish system governance, strengthen accessibility, and help define how AI tools consume and contribute to the design system.

What You'll Do

  • Design, evolve, and maintain components, patterns, and tokens end to end, from the Figma library through production.
  • Shape layered token architecture across primitive, semantic, and component levels for color, typography, spacing, radius, and motion.
  • Ensure design tokens translate cleanly into cross-platform code.
  • Run design-system governance, including contribution and review models, versioning and deprecation, decision frameworks, and component-level quality reviews.
  • Maintain a single source of truth covering variants, states, examples, and when-not-to-use guidance.
  • Maintain a machine-readable layer using structured metadata and context files so AI-generated output remains aligned with the design system.
  • Review and verify AI-drafted documentation before it ships.
  • Build accessibility into components by default at WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • Test components using keyboard-only navigation and at least one screen reader.
  • Document accessibility behavior and limitations for each component.
  • Use AI for component exploration, documentation, pattern validation, and prototyping, including agentic coding tools.
  • Help define how AI tools consume the design system and contribute to patterns for AI and agentic experiences.
  • Drive adoption by unblocking designers, partnering with product owners, and supporting engineers.
  • Use usage, drift, adoption, and accessibility-defect data to determine what to build, fix, and retire.

Required Qualifications

  • Figma power user with experience operating complex systems built on Design Tokens and Variables.
  • Experience creating design-system components in Figma, including components, variants, and library architecture.
  • Ability to create and edit Figma plugins.
  • Experience with the Figma MCP server and Code Connect tools.
  • Ability to generate and maintain skill.md files for AI automation.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA at the component-mechanics level.
  • Front-end literacy sufficient to discuss implementation with engineers, including HTML, CSS, React or similar.
  • Active AI fluency, including experience with at least one AI coding tool.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to present, lead meetings, and influence without authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with native iOS and Android design systems alongside web.
  • Experience with enterprise or regulated-industry UI, including data tables, complex forms, multi-step workflows, and role-based interfaces.
  • Insurance or financial services experience.
  • Experience with token pipeline tooling such as Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio.
  • Experience with documentation tooling such as Storybook, zeroheight, or Supernova.
  • Experience with MCP-based context delivery.
  • Experience leading a design-system migration while maintaining adoption.
  • Multi-brand or localization experience.
  • Experience with automated accessibility or visual regression testing in CI.
