Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack, Python / Vue) | Fully Remote (US Central or East Coast TIme zone) | $130K to $140K base
Most engineers never see the impact of their code. This role is the exception.
Our client is a venture-backed, founder-led software company building for local government. Their platform handles work that directly affects how communities are funded, and when it gets a decision right, real people and real budgets are better off for it.
The company is recognized nationally year after year, works with government offices across a large and growing number of states, and has a track record of measurable results its customers talk about openly.
This year they moved from a focused single product into a broader AI-powered platform, with LLM-driven automation already running in production rather than sitting on a roadmap. Regulatory changes are pushing demand toward them faster than the market can absorb. This is a small team that grew carefully and is now stepping on the gas.
What you will do
- Build backend services in Python (FastAPI, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Celery, Redis) that run across hundreds of counties. Multi-tenancy, observability, and cost are yours to own.
- Build clean, simple front ends in Vue 3 and TypeScript for users who are not technologists.
- Direct and review multiple coding agents at once (Claude Code, Cursor) and help shape how the whole team works with AI.
- Write specs before code and define what "done" means.
- Talk directly with the county staff who use what you build, and make product calls based on what you learn.
Why this is a career move
- You will be doing agentic development in production, in a regulated domain, at scale, years before most teams figure it out.
- You will own systems end to end, not tickets. That is how engineers become architects and technical leads.
- Your work produces numbers a community can point to.
- No degree requirement, no committees. A small team that judges you on what you ship and how you think.
Who this is for
- 5-8 years shipping real software, including time at a small company where you owned things end to end
- Professional, production-grade Python building APIs and pipelines (not scripting or side projects)
- Strong JavaScript fundamentals; Vue preferred, strong vanilla JS welcome
- Daily user of an agentic coding tool who can say exactly what you delegate and what you refuse to
- Experience running more than one agent at a time and guarding against goal drift, file collisions, and runaway loops
- Strong reviewer who catches the architectural problem, not just the typo
- Product-minded, client-facing, and clear in writing
Nice to have: PostGIS, Playwright, MCP, feature flags, design systems, Auth0, Sentry, Datadog, AWS. Govtech, proptech, fintech, or other regulated-domain experience.
The details
- Base salary: $130,000 to $140,000
