Position Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead the development of AI and data-powered features that improve the pet care experience. This is a cross-functional role focused on machine learning, modeling and analytics engineering. You’ll be instrumental in bringing data-driven insights and personalized experiences to life, while helping maintain the reliability and scalability of our modern data stack.
Key Responsibilities
This role is primarily focused on data science, with light engineering ownership to maintain data pipelines and support analytics.
Data Science & AI (70%)
- Design and prototype machine learning models for personalization, segmentation, and recommendation engines
- Build AI-driven features that enhance the member experience and streamline vet workflows
- Partner with product and engineering to integrate models into the platform and monitor their performance
- Translate business questions into data solutions — from exploration to production-ready models
Data Engineering & Infrastructure (30%)
- Maintain and optimize data pipelines using tools like dbt, Fivetran, Prefect, and Airbyte
- Manage key datasets in Snowflake in partnership with BI and product engineering teams
- Troubleshoot data issues and pipeline failures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and trust in downstream analytics and models
- Build and maintain analytics-ready data models
- Ensure high data quality and observability across critical pipelines
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or hybrid data roles
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and data manipulation libraries like pandas
- Experience applying AI or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems, ideally in a product or customer-facing context
- Hands-on experience with machine learning, statistics, and experimentation
- Familiarity with distributed data systems (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift) and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect)
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Comfortable with Git-based workflows and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions
- Proficiency with BI tools like Sigma, Looker, or Tableau
