This role will primarily support Drake Software as we provide the tools and support tax professionals need to build their businesses and attract new clients. Position Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Taxwell, you will be a leading contributor in our software development team, focusing primarily on .NET, Angular, and Microsoft SQL Server technologies. You’ll help mentor other developers, drive high-level architectural decisions, and take ownership of key technical projects to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions for our customers.

Technical Leadership & Development

Design, develop, and maintain complex software applications using .NET (C#), Angular, and Microsoft SQL Server
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—product managers, QA, UX—to define technical requirements and inform product direction
Provide expert guidance on best practices for coding, testing, and deployment in a full-stack environment

Architectural Oversight

Lead architectural design decisions, ensuring alignment with overall engineering and product strategy
Optimize system performance, security, and scalability to handle peak tax-filing demands
Champion robust design principles and frameworks to maintain a highly reliable codebase

Mentorship & Collaboration

Act as a technical mentor for junior and mid-level developers, offering code reviews, pair programming sessions, and technical workshops
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, open communication, and proactive problem-solving
Collaborate with leadership to plan and execute product roadmaps, sprint goals, and long-term technical strategy

Quality Assurance & Maintenance

Oversee implementation of automated test frameworks and continuous integration (CI/CD) pipelines
Monitor and analyze system performance metrics to identify and resolve bottlenecks
Work closely with DevOps to ensure smooth deployment processes and timely release of new features

Innovation & Technical Growth

Stay current with emerging software technologies, frameworks, and industry trends relevant to .NET, Angular, and Microsoft SQL Server
Investigate and prototype new tools or solutions that could enhance the Taxwell user experience
Contribute to improving development methodologies and internal processes

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
6+ years of professional software development experience, including leadership or senior-level engineering roles

Technical Skills

.NET (C#) expertise for building robust back-end services and APIs (experience with Java or other server-side languages is also acceptable)
Angular proficiency for creating scalable, responsive front-end interfaces (experience with React or other modern front-end frameworks is also acceptable)
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, query optimization, and stored procedures (experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other relational databases is also acceptable)
Experience with RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP is a plus

Additional Requirements

Strong communication, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities
Problem-solving mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in fintech, accounting, or tax software domains
Knowledge of security best practices (e.g., OWASP, data privacy regulations)
Experience implementing DevOps practices (containers, Kubernetes, build automation)
