What we need:

We’re at a pivotal moment in our evolution as a company, with ambitious plans to transform how scientific software is experienced and adopted. Product Design is central to that transformation. Improving user experience is one of our top company-wide objectives. We’re investing in design as a strategic capability to shape how our products work end-to-end.

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer (UX) to join our Product Design centre of excellence at Dotmatics. This is a high-impact role where you’ll help define and deliver experiences used by millions of scientists working across biology, chemistry, and microbiology.

You’ll collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Business Analysts, Scientists, and UX Researchers to solve complex problems, evolve our design system, and deliver insight-driven, end-to-end experiences across our platform.

In this role you will:

  • Own and drive user experience across key product areas, from early concept through to delivery and iteration
  • Translate complex scientific workflows and data models into clear, intuitive, and scalable user experiences
  • Create and communicate design solutions through user journeys, wireframes, and high-fidelity interactive prototypes
  • Leverage AI tools in your design workflow, from rapid prototyping to exploration and iteration (e.g. using tools like Figma and Claude)
  • Use research and data to inform decisions, working closely with UX Research to identify opportunities and validate solutions
  • Evolve and extend our design system, contributing components and patterns that improve consistency and speed across teams
  • Collaborate deeply with cross-functional teams, ensuring design intent is carried through into implementation
  • Present and defend design decisions with clarity and confidence to stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and the business
  • Actively participate in design critiques, raising the bar through thoughtful feedback and challenge
  • Champion user-centred design practices, including accessibility, responsive design, and insight-driven decision-making

We are looking for people who have 7+ years’ experience as a Product Designer or UX Designer, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end impact and Proven ability to own complex problem spaces and deliver high-quality solutions independently within a cross-functional team

The key skills we are looking for:

  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, with the ability to clearly present design decisions and collaborate effectively across global, cross-functional teams
  • Advanced skills in interaction design, information architecture, and visual communication
  • Experience working with design systems and component-based design, including contributing to and scaling systems
  • Proficiency in tools such as Figma (or equivalent) for design and prototyping
  • Hands-on experience using AI to accelerate design workflows, such as generating concepts, building prototypes, or exploring interaction patterns
  • A solid understanding of user research methods and how to apply insights to design decisions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complexity

You may also have:

  • Experience designing for scientific or technical domains, such as: Scientific data management or analysis; Ontologies and structured data systems; Registration workflows or data integrity systems; or Tools that support scientific discovery or process efficiency
  • Familiarity with modern AI-assisted design and development workflows (e.g. prompt-based prototyping, integrating with APIs or MCP-style tooling)
  • Experience working in Agile, Lean UX, or Design Thinking environments
  • Background in Product Design, Graphic Design, Fine Art, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
