Founding Engineer (Backend / AI Systems)

Founding Engineer - Diversifi Bengaluru (remote-friendly) · 1–3 years · ₹10–12L + 2–3% equity

We're a SEBI-registered RIA building an AI portfolio analyst for Indian retail investors. The product is live, has real users, and we're at the stage where the next engineer's decisions actually shape what the company becomes.

You'd be the first engineering hire, working directly with me (founder, ex-product lead at FloBiz). The stack is Python on GCP (Cloud Run, Postgres, Firebase) with a Flutter app on top. Most of the interesting work right now is on the backend and AI side: LLM orchestration, agentic workflows, data pipelines, and the quant layer underneath the recommendations.

What you'll own

You'll take on a large part of engineering execution across:

• Backend feature work, debugging, and reliability
• LLM orchestration and AI workflows (chat, agents, evals)
• Data pipelines and internal tools
• Performance, coverage, and engineering velocity

Scope expands over time based on your strengths and where the product needs to go.

What I'm looking for

• 1-3 years of engineering experience, strong backend fundamentals
• Comfortable in Python, APIs, databases, production systems
• Can take a vague problem, scope it, ship it, and own the outcome without hand-holding
• Have built or genuinely want to build with LLMs, agents, or AI orchestration
• High ownership. You don't wait for specs, you write them
• Comfortable with ambiguity, fast iteration, and being wrong sometimes

Nice to have

• Experience with LLM workflows, evals, or agent systems in production
• Interest in finance, investing, or building for retail investors
• Comfort with async jobs, background workers, GCP

What you should know before applying

• We're early-stage and running lean, with investment from NSUT IIF (SISFS scheme).
• Cash is below market, and equity is meant to make that tradeoff meaningful
• Team is small (4 today) and stretched. You'll have huge scope and direct impact, but no polished onboarding, no layers of process, and no one to escalate to.
• Remote-friendly, but Bengaluru-based candidates have a slight edge for occasional in-person work.
• Process: short async screen, technical conversation, paid 2-3 day trial on a real ticket, founder fit conversation. Fast loop, decision within ~2 weeks of first contact.
