Web Designer / Developer
Independent contractor (1099) · Remote, U.S. · Per-project with hourly option
Location: Remote — must reside in the United States (U.S. residency required; see below)
U.S. RESIDENCY REQUIRED — This is a standard, non-negotiable requirement. Contractor must reside in the United States. We do not hire or contract workers located outside the U.S. Applications from outside the U.S. will not be considered.
About the Role
Digital Rx Business Solutions is the non-automotive division of Digital Rx Consulting. We serve local service businesses, B2B manufacturers, and mission-driven institutions — building clean, fast, content-rich websites engineered to rank in both classical search and AI-driven discovery (AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini).
We're hiring a contract Web Designer/Developer to build new client websites end-to-end — from initial structure through live deployment — and to add landing pages and/or blogs as needed.
Who You'll Build For
You'll build across three client archetypes, each with different requirements:
● Local service (e.g., concrete, storage) service-area pages, quote / lead-gen flows, reviews, local trust signals.
● B2B manufacturer — product/spec pages, technical credibility, distributor/specifier framing.
● Mission-driven / institution (e.g., schools) program pages, enrollment/inquiry flows, community and family-facing content.
Representative sites are small-to-mid multi-page builds (roughly 8–15 pages), content-heavy, form-driven, with AI-SEO baked in from day one.
What You'll Do
● Build complete client websites from brief to launch — information architecture, design, responsive front-end build, content integration, and deployment.
● Stand up hosting and deployment (e.g., Netlify, Vercel, or client-specified), configure domains / DNS, and manage go-live.
● Migrate content from clients' existing sites (Wix, WordPress, Squarespace) into clean, fast, modern builds.
● Bake AI-SEO in from the start — direct-answer-first structure, FAQ blocks, valid JSON-LD schema (Organization / LocalBusiness, Product / Service, FAQPage), correct meta / OG, and llms.txt setup.
● Implement forms and integrations — contact forms, lead capture, and lightweight integrations (email, form routing, and — when scoped — payments or automation).
● Collaborate with our content team, who supply copy and content strategy. You own design, build, deployment, and technical AI-SEO instrumentation.
● QA every build for mobile rendering, Core Web Vitals, accessibility, schema validity, and cross-browser behavior before launch, and handle post-launch fixes.
What You Bring
Required
● Must reside in the United States (U.S. residency is a hard requirement — see above).
● 3–6 years of web design/development experience with full-site builds under your belt.
● Strong front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and genuine design eye — these sites need to look nice, not templated.
● Deployment fluency: hosting, domains / DNS, go-live process, and basic monitoring.
● Content-migration experience (moving existing sites into clean new builds).
● Understanding of AI-SEO structure and hands-on experience writing/validating JSON-LD schema.
● Mobile-first discipline and Core Web Vitals fluency.
● Ability to run a build independently, meet per-project deadlines, and QA your own work.
Strongly Preferred
● Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate full-site builds — with the judgment to evaluate, QA, and correct the tool's output rather than ship it unreviewed.
● A "boring, fast" stack sensibility (e.g., static-site generation / clean HTML over heavy framework overhead) for speed and performance.
● Experience across more than one of our archetypes (local service, B2B, institution).
● Familiarity with llms.txt and emerging AI-discoverability standards.
Engagement & Compensation
Most site builds are priced per project (flat rate per site). An hourly rate of $45–$60 (based on experience) applies to scoped work, content migration, and ongoing maintenance, and is the basis we use to set per-project pricing. We supply content and strategy and support an AI-assisted build workflow, so strong contractors can deliver efficiently and are well compensated for flat-rate work. Rates commensurate with experience. Steady, ongoing volume — including larger builds — for the right contractor. This is a 1099 role with no benefits.
To Apply
Send the following:
● 2–3 full websites you've built end to end, with live URLs.
● One example of a site you migrated from an older platform.
● If you use AI-assisted dev tools: one example where you drove the tool to a nice result, and what you had to correct along the way.
